Wow, second game in a week that the Phils got hosed, and had the outcome of the game affected by a blatantly wrong call by an ump. I don't tend, or even like, to bitch about umpires, because this strike was always outside, and that ball was always on the corner, and that shit evens itself out as the year unfolds. But when they're big calls that affect who wins and who loses, based solely on one call, then I have a beef. Yeah, maybe the Phils would have gone on to lose that game against the Mets, but come the fuck on. This is ridiculous. I can not put into words how truly irate I am. Or, on the other hand, how much I ♥ Jayson Werth.
So the Fish have played like ass the past two games, but amid all that, we had Burke Badenhop (aka "The Hopper" [TM Rich Waltz]) make his first Major League start, and it wasn't great but it wasn't terrible, either. And it's kind of funny how his pitching delivery is reminiscent of Maddux's, since he "was a huge Maddux fan, but his mom loved Tom Glavine" according to Rich&Tommy. I DIED. xD
And we had the fabulously quotable Logan Kensing talk about, of all things,
"Deep In the Heart of Texas", which is played at MinuteMaid ever game.
"Each place should have a song. I remember going to the Astrodome they always played it. And they used to have the bull. Every time they hit a home run the bull would come out and steam would come out of its nose. It was always fun."
And Logan is 5, obviously.
And I'm not even going to start on Glavine. I will get sad and emo and you all will make fun of me, and we don't want that, do we? Maddux's birthday is tomorrow, maybe he wanted to catch an early flight for their mutual offday? lolz I'm trying and failing to cheer myself up. Glavdawggggg :'( I mean, this guy pitched months with a broken rib, which in that case, no one knew about it. So it's not like I think he's doomed or whatever. But it's just a disconcerting thing to hear, "leaves with an apparent [injury]"
The R-Phils are hardly worth mentioning. They were terrible in the home opener, commiting 4 errors, and Altoona scored a run in each of the first 4 innings. It looked like a picket fence on the scoreboard. But I did get lots of yummy ribs and hot dogs, and caught up with my friends there. Oh, and they had an autograph sesh pregame around the warning track and at home plate, so I got them to autograph the Spring Training program that
lienour_graves bought me! Even got Carrasco and Golson and Jason Donald (who was particularly sweet).
In actual good news, there was a Buy One/Get One (for a penny) shoe sale yesterday at work. So I got two pairs of
these, one in bronze and one in black. I need some shoes for work, some nice summery ones. All I have are plain black chunky shoes that aren't even mine, that are my mom's. It took me forever to find a pair, though. So many of the cute shoes were FLATS and, I know they're popular, and they are cute, but I hate them. Because I am way way too short to wear them, especially in the summer when I'll be wearing capri-length pants or skirts. Just...no. That would look terrible.
IT'S OVER!
ETA: IT'S NOT OVER! During the Phillies game, the camera focused in on Cole and Kyle sitting at the rail, and they were discussing the change-up with each other, had the baseball with them, practicing their grip and such, and were generally chatty and smiley and it was all sorts of adorable, is what I'm saying.
