-Our first topic of conversation is not baseball.
Okay, so, the Saturday Night festivities are usually rather superfluous, but last night was entertaining. At least in the Dunk Contest portion. I don't think there was one person in that arena, or watching television that, at some point, didn't waffle over the thought of buying themselves a Dwight Howard jersey. Myself included.
And because I'm a fundamentals type of girl, seeing my boy
DWill win the Skills Challenge left me, no pun intended, extremely jazzed. You don't get to see that sort of flow during an actual game. But he did it, perfect, without missing a beat. The video's up
here And it's only about 25 seconds long, his run through the course. I know everyone was agog over the Dunk Contest, and rightfully so, but watching someone do all the simple things that so many superstars can't, and do them perfectly, is so admirable.
Also,
Chris Paul & Deron Williams are the NBA's younger, hotter equivalent of Maddux/Glavine. This is only really funny to you if you watch basketball as well as baseball, but trust me on this. AS I AM NEVER WRONG!
Of course, I don't have a new OTP by any means (Nash/Nowitzki AAF). Hell, I don't even know if I like them better as a friendship yet (which ended up being the case with M/G), but I think it's safe to say I am extremely fond of their dynamic, and also the "dynamic" that is created by the media.
But if Chris Paul is found in a ditch 15-20 years from now, and you see Deron Williams hiding the shovel, don't say I didn't warn you.
I bet yous want to know what I have to say about Beltran's little er. Comment. Well, unlike the Phillies, who took the higher road and didn't respond.
FIRST OF ALL: wtff.
Team To Beat has it's own Wiki Page. This should not surprise me and yet it does.
ANYWAY. Of course it could be called HYPOCRITCAL to get on Beltran's case of his proclamation after J-Roll made the same proclatmation when the tables were turned last year. EXCEPT IT'S NOT
A) Jimmy's whole quote was: "I think we are the team to beat in the NL East -- finally. But, that's only on paper." And people forget that. What's he supposed to say? "No, I think that despite all our acquisitions, and a great core of young players, we won't contend this year"?
B) Jimmy was asked a question. Beltran said it unprompted.
B1) And directed it to Jimmy
C) Copycat
D) BETTER HAVE A DAMN GOOD SEASON, NOW, BELTRAN. Oh wait nevermind, SANTANA'S GOING TO SAVE YOU ALL. Nobody else has to DO A DAMN THING. My bad.
I don't even know why I'm wasting my proverbial breath addressing it, but this Mets/Philies rivalry is getting ridiculous, for something that's ONE YEAR OLD. Everyone's acting like it's goddamn New York Giants/Brooklyn Dodgers. And the only reason it STARTED was because of Mets fans. And now Mets players. It's KIND OF HILARIOUS. I mean, us Phillies fans? Heck, EVERYONE'S our hated rival, we don't give special treatment out or anything...
-GUYS! I think Hermy's gonna have a friend this year!!
In Cameron Maybin! From T-Ball to the Pros by Cameron Maybin.
A plastic binding holds together the pages, including the two faded green sheets of laminated construction paper that sandwich the story. The author and illustrator, Maybin dedicated the second-grade project to his Dad, "who taught me to love the game."
An excerpt: "When I was just 3 years old, my Dad took me to McCormick Field to see the Asheville Tourists play. The wonderful sounds of people cheering and terrific smells of hot dogs and popcorn made me realize that this was the life for me."
Awww I like this Maybin kid. LIKE A TON.
And, what the hell?
Dan's out-retarded himself again. While golfing on Thursday at a local course in Jupiter, Uggla's cart almost struck a baby raccoon. Seeing the animal was alone and struggling, the Marlins second baseman wrapped it in a towel and brought it back to the apartment. The players started calling it Ricky
Okay. Hopefully approaching raccoons in the day time is not a FREQUENT occurence for Daniel. As usually if they are out and about during the day, they are CARRYING RABIES. But, you know. Live and learn, I guess. (And
here's an interview he did with the PBP reporter about it.) He is INSANE, I swear. God bless Tara Uggla. I can't imagine what she goes through on a daily basis.
