Oh ho ho! Sneaky, didn't think anyone would ask me. 'm kinda glad you did, I needed a good laugh.

All the fic answers are early90s!Smoltz, btw. Post-95 would be a whole 'nother can of worms where the answers would be terribly mean and redundant. I'm just goin' with who he is when I write him.

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

Baseball: Well baseballwise, I've always thought he was actually underrated, or I guess overlooked? He's probably one of the most consistent pitchers I've seen in my time as a baseball fan. And I'd pick him HoF sooner than picking Glav, all things considered. This is strictly baseball, though. Sort of like my feelings for Glav. xD

Fic: I don't like him but I like how human he is, I guess. Most baseball players don't really seem accessible/relatable, and he kind of does. I mean, he seems like an intelligent, complex sort of guy, if not a bit reliant on other people/things instead of dealing with problems himself. Which, I don't like that part. It's kind of...like, "Seriously? Fucking deal, already." Of course, I got this from two books and a video, so it may not be as strong as I make it in my fic, but I still think there's something there, I try not to just make shit up. At least not in fic. xD But I think that's why I like writing him, because I don't like him all that much, so I'm not biased into trying to make him ideal, like maybe I would with, I don't know Chase Utley for example.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Ha, one-third of The Big Three version 1.0. So I'd say so.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

Er, not really, except for maybe the part where you actually do realize what you're getting yourself into. I'm a pretty aware sort of person, and he is too. And perhaps being able to feed off stress and accomplish things instead of letting it tear you down. Nose to the grindstone and all that. I've gotten a lot better at channeling my stress into something productive, I'd like to think and it kinda gave me a little joy writing the parts like that.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

The Braves in general? Oh, DIAF, plz. The '91 team is pretty cool though. And dare I say likeable.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS but even his friendship with Tom kind of cutes me out, I think because they both dork out when they talk to each other and they're usually so stoic/chill/whatever, and somehow talking about each other makes them all HEE! and it's just FUNNY, whatever. I laugh at everything else about the two of them anyway. Oh, and golf euphenisms FTW.

And his friendship with Avery, oh god, I could go on for days. It's very...I mean, I don't have to try and extract any subtext or whatever, for writing purposes, it's there, plain as day. And I like that, how they're opposites in some ways but completely alike in others, both on and off the field! and it makes them great friends and fun to write about. I think I may have a better Smoltz&Avery storyline, and Avery gets more face time than Tom in my fic. My fic that is going under Smoltz/Glavine. xD See, Tom kind of ruins everything (but you knew that already *ooo cheapshot* ;P)

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

Haha, that he isn't such a conformist and could learn to think for himself? And get a fucking grip on his emotions? lol god.

Yeah, yeah, Tom ruins everything, but he kind of didn't in the 2006 post season, so it just comes with age.

Golf euphemisms FTW, obv. If our OTPs went golfing, mine would just suck. Tom all being perfect and aged and picking on them. Calling Pelf "Goofy" and ha ha ha, you break clubs with such a fury.

Smoltzie does seem a *bit* underrated, but he's John Smoltz.

You know, that Glavine archive/site, there're stories of encounters. Did you read about this girl finding him in a bar and sitting on his lap for a picture?

I'm sure we'll see new Smoltz/Glavine adventures in 2008. Let's just see how much Hudson gets himself involved in this mess, if he does, at all.
