One of the things Saffron loved about where she lived was that despite how many huts seemed to be springing up all over the island, hers continued to remain in relative isolation despite its reasonable distance from the compound. There were no other huts in sight from where she was; the closest thing was the church and even that was hardly right on ( Read more... )

Lex of course was used to living with someone. During the year they were together, they had established a quiet routine with each other around Lex's fencing and teaching and Anatoly's chess. Otherwise, they were together even if it was just quietly reading or playing with Aeneas. It had been thoughtless and easy. Not that living with Helen wasn't easy or that they didn't get along...there were just moments when Lex missed that quiet routine.

He'd spotted her by the stream from the hut and after changing, moved out to join her. His light linen pants were rolled up, as were the sleeves of his white shirt which hung open. It was bare as he could get in the island sun with his fair skin. "Want some company?" He asked with an easy smile as he approached her rock.

"Sure," Saffron replied, returning Lex's smile and beckoning him over with a tilt of her head. She leaned back and tied her bikini top unhurriedly, with the nonchalance of someone used to being seen in much less.

"I really like that shirt on you, have I ever told you that?" she said, stretching her legs out to dip her bare feet in the water. "White's a good color for you."

Lex wasn't the type to be bashful, so she could have been sunbathing nude and it wouldn't have phased him. In fact, it would have been tame compared to his partying days in Metropolis. So it was a simple matter to just walk up to the rock and sit beside her, offering to help tie the back.

He grinned at her compliment. "Thank you. I never could wear white without a suit at home. I was so pale, it made me look like a ghost, especially after I lost my hair." He looked down at his arm that now had a healthy light tan that was mostly freckles thanks to his old red hair. "i guess I have the island to thank for finally giving me some color. Enjoying a quiet afternoon?" He asked with friendly curiousity.

Saffron let him help with the tying, smiling at him in thanks as he settled next to her. She studied him, idly smoothing a corner of his collar as she did so. "I can't imagine you with hair," she said thoughtfully after a moment, then winked at him with a playful smile. "I think you're pretty handsome this way anyhow."

She looked down at his arms, then her own. "It's the same for me. I used to be terrible pale," she said. Even now, her tan wasn't all that dark, at least not as dark as the amount of time she spent in the sun would seem to make it. "I am. You know how busy I can get with the club; it's nice sometimes to just sit a spell and relax."

"Thank you. And honestly? Neither can I." Lex ran a hand over his bare head with a small smile on his face. Sure it had caused him his share of hardships, but there were worse things then being bald. "I've been bald longer then I had hair so I barely even remember it."

Then he reached over and curled a strand of her hair around his finger, tugging it lightly. "It was a bit brighter red then yours, have you told you that? And curlier then a clowns. I think the meteor shower did me a favor honestly. Though us pale red heads still have to stick together." He nudged her carefully with his elbow, before leaning back on his hands. "You should have more of it. My offer to help still stands."

She tried to imagine Lex with curly red hair and couldn't picture it. Saffron generally preferred hair on a man, something she could run her fingers through, but bald really was a good look for him.

"I think I may take you up on that offer," Saffron replied. What with folks disappearing she was pretty short-handed. "What do you say to tending bar for me? I could really use one downstairs."

"I think I could do that. And my father said my rebellion days would never come in handy." Lex said in self amusement as he thought of the look on Lionel's face if he heard that his son was a bartender at a jazz club. "Though it seems like your going to have do some serious recruiting for dancers. I'm surprised Harris hasn't burned out yet."

"I hope he doesn't," Saffron mused, giving Lex a wry smile. "He's the best male dancer I have, when we had others to compare him to, that is. Do you know of anyone who might be interested in auditioning?"

"He is very good. Which is honestly surprising when you meet him." Though in answer to her question, he could only shake his head. "Unfortunately, I can't think of anyone. The only time I ever did something like that, I wasn't exactly dressed as you'd expect." He couldn't help a small smile. That had been a fun month.

That caught Saffron's interest. "Not dressed as I'd expect, hmmm?" she said curiously, with the hint of a mischievous smile. "And what way was that?"

Lex chuckled fondly as the memory, leaning back on his hands as he spoke. "I spent a month in a drag club. I danced once as a bet and the owner liked me so much he let me stay. So I did, until the local tabloids found out that the heir to the most powerful man in Metropolis was making money dancing as a girl. I was in a pissing off daddy phase you see." By the end, his smirk was sharp and quite pleased with himself. "It was one of my more creative rebellions."

"Oh really?" Saffron said, eyebrows raising. "That is interesting indeed." It was especially interesting in light of something she'd been already thinking about.

"You know, I was thinking about making one of the theme nights drag night," she mused aloud. "You wouldn't be interested in revisiting that creative rebellion, would you?"

It took only a moments thought before Lex nodded with a small grin. "For you? I think Lily can make a reappearance." He was slightly amazed at how much he meant it but Helen was a friend, one of the few he had left and one who he knew he wouldn't have to push away to save in the end. She was perfectly capable of saving herself. "I do owe you for taking me in." He teased lightly, running a hand up her arm. He did wish she would let him thank her a bit more privately...

"That you do," Saffron agreed with a smile, and if her pulse raced a little at the tone of Lex's voice and the touch of his hand on her arm, she couldn't hardly be blamed for that. She'd been remarkably self-controlled even for her, after living with him for months now. "Good, then it's settled. Our next theme night, I get to meet Lily."

His hand didn't stop as he continued. "I'll probably have to borrow a few things from you...and hopefully the box will cooperate. I would hate to do a half ass job for you." Not that he believed he would, it was more just as he could keep talking in the low teasing tone.

She leaned into him slightly, her smile deepening. "I'm sure you won't," she said. "Between what I've got and the clothes box, I'm sure you'll look gorgeous. And if we need help, we can always get Prior to whip up something for you."
