Discussion Post: Speculation

Last discussion post before the new season starts, so my question this week is for speculation. What do you think will happen in the first episode, as well as the rest of the season? More reoccurring villains, more background info, etc.? Do you think we'll actually get answers to anything, if the machine is alive, what happened to Finch and Nathan ( Read more... )

Just a minor point, but -- rewatching "Firewall" just now, I was thinking, when Reese sees Root again, he REALLY needs to say to her, "It's time to panic."

Definitely. (Have you noticed I often agree with you?)
Yeah, she better panic. When Reese protects you, you end up okay. When he's mad at you, you might never play golf again, at the very least. And I think he will probably want to do more than just knee cap her.
I was thinking about her thanking him as she started down the ladder -- yeah, right. But he didn't know exactly what she was really thanking him for.

Yes, I do think we'll get more background on Nathan and what happened to cause Finch's limp -- mainly because they've been saying so. I think we will get answers to some things, but I suppose they'll also raise more questions ( ... )

I think the machine is alive, but isn't. What I mean by that is I think Finch taught it to recognize threats and warnings and how to react. I think what Reese is doing now is trying to get the machines attention because the machine is trained to see and react to certain things. I believe he goes to the people he trust or count on to help him get his boss/friend back ( ... )

I think that the first episode of the second season will see a significant shift in the relationships among the four team members ( ... )

"Personally, I would like to see a knock-down drag out fight between Stanton and Carter. These two are like dueling angels of evil and good sitting on Reese's shoulders battling over his psyche, his past and his future. That dichotomy has to play out somehow this season."

I like Carter too, but honestly, I think Finch was Reese's good angel first. :-) I'd rather see Finch and Stanton fight it out, though I'd be happy to see Carter jump into the fight on Finch's side.

I totally agree - FINCH is Reese's better half - if only as his mentor on his journey back from the dark side.

I am looking forward to the new dynamics that will hopefully occur now that all core 4 members of the "Team" are aware of each other and are working as a unit. But I am also hoping that they will stick with Finch's stated directive that no one else should know about The Machine besides him and Reese.

Simmons either got blown up or is about to have an uncomfortable time with the FBI - they have him on camera cutting the security feeds.

As for Stanton, I don't think she qualifies as a villain. In all the flashbacks, she was doing her job. No different from Reese. And getting the drop on and shooting the man that ordered her execution - and was there to kill Reese, but would have happily killed her in his place - makes her badass, not bad.

I'm hoping (and anticipating) more character development. Season 1 focused on very little beyond Finch and Reese - as it it should be! - but as the series marches forward they need to development more emotional investment in the audience for the secondary characters. Someday they'll kill one of them off (inevitable these days) and what's the point if no one cares ( ... )
