Neil had been busy while Todd had been working. He’d scouted out the spot he thought would be perfect, not too far from the main Bar but far enough that they wouldn’t be disturbed, then he’d gone in to the Bar and quietly put in his request for food and the other items he needed. While Todd had been grabbing his shower and night was falling, Neil had gathered everything up and gone out to the spot to lay everything out.
Hey, if you were going to be corny, best do it up right!
He lead Todd along the darkening path towards a flickering light tucked on the edge of a small grove of tall trees, staying resolutely quiet on the subject of where they were going until he was able to unveil his surprise to he other boy.
“Here we go…ah…table for two, so to speak.” Neil sounded both incredible pleased with himself and a bit nervous. He was a little afraid Todd might find the whole idea completely idiotic but … well… Neil was playing a hunch that he knew his lover better then that.
There was a large, thick wool blanket laid out on the ground with a couple of large pillows for sitting on or leaning against. A picnic basket, stocked full of a roasted rosemary garlic chicken, mashed potatoes, French bread, gravy a fruit salad and fresh chilled asparagus and some double chocolate brownies sat inside the basket along with a bottle of chilled apple cider. While Neil had wanted to do the classic candles, the uneven level of the ground made that dangerous so instead a large citronella candle sat in the center of the blanket, flickering a warm welcome, smaller candles perched on all four corners of the blanket.
Neil had chosen this spot as it had a beautifully unobstructed view of the night sky above, a bit of shelter from anyone wandering by and the rich scent of turning leaves perfumed the air. Turning towards Todd, he held his hand out to help the smaller boy settle down on the large blanket.
“And I hope you’re hungry.” Bar had packed them a very large bird!
