I'm no expert. I don't commute everyday but I've experienced using public transportation on some days. Most people think I don't, just because we have a driver and I'm seemingly always hatid-sundo. But I'm proud to say that even in the absence of those things, I'll find a way to get home. Again, I'm no expert so this is just to share my experiences.
Ever since we moved here from the province, I had no need of commuting to school because school was just right in front our doorstep. Figuratively, of course, as there's another door in front our door. Hehe. Anyway, for both high school and college, all I had to do was cross the street and I'm in school already. It took me less than twenty minutes on a lazy day and about ten minutes on a rushed day. I was only driven to school if it was raining hard, as in my umbrella would turn upside down; or if I had lots stuff to carry. Sometimes I'd take the tricycle if I was in a hurry or if I was lazy or if I had stuff to carry. Sometimes some kind soul will take pity on me and drop me off at our house. But otherwise, I would always walk to and from school.
Can you imagine? That's about 10 years of my life, just walking and depending on my own two feet. And then I graduated college. During the times I was taking French class in Makati, I began taking the LRT-MRT, get down at Buendia and ride a jeepney to N. Garcia, walking to AFM from there. Same way going home. I can't recall how I knew about this... But, maybe I taught myself? Hehe. There was a time also when I had to pay my tuition at Taft. I planned on going to MRT-Buendia then going down at Taft and using the LRT. But a friend of mine from AFM came to my rescue! We rode a FX along Buendia and then got down at LRT-Buendia station. I haven't tried that route in years but maybe I'll be doing that again sometime in the future.
And so I began taking my master's degree in RCBC, which is about impossible for just walking and almost 2-3 cities away (Pasig? Mandaluyong? San Juan?) So, I'd have a driver take me to Makati. Or ever doting sister, who'd also wait for me to finish class. Sometimes, my parents would take me and then wait for me. Sometimes I would take the taxi going to Makati but never going back to Katipunan, because it'd be so late. Sometimes I'd take the LRT then MRT and then the jeepney. At this point, depending on my own two feet was no longer conceivable. I had to use a car, a train or a jeepney. So, there goes a major turning point.
There were also times that I had to go to Taft, which is heeeeello, definitely not walkable! But for me, that was easier than going to Makati because I can take the LRT to Recto, walk to the Doroteo Jose station and then take the LRT to Vito Cruz, which is, ta-dah!, just at DLSU's doorstep. I can't remember when I first discovered this or who taught me. Again, I'd like to think I taught myself? Hehe. However, the problem now with having a class at Taft is ending at 9:15p.m. I think the station's still open but I haven't walked that Doroteo Jose-Recto connecting bridge at night. Scaaary? Hehe. I'm glad though that the last train's comes around 10:30, so if ever, I'll still be able to take the train going home.
This term, also, I have class at Ortigas. And I just found out there's a million possibilities of going to LSGH, thanks to Embs! There's the taxi, there's the LRT-MRT-walking/taxi combo, or the LRT-Bus combo. Hehe, parang pagkain? But well, there. And I also know how to get to Ortigas from Taft, which is what I'll be doing this Saturday. So, whew!
Again, I'm no expert. I don't do this everyday but for someone with my background, I guess natuwa lang ako. I haven't tried the MRT-Taft then walk to Puregold, or something, to get to the LRT-Taft. Haven't gone to Monumento or North Ave or Baclaran, because I had no reason to. But I guess there's a possibility for that! Mas hindi ko pa na-try yung bus. I'll be trying one this afternoon. Heehee. So again, I feel happy that I was able to do all these commuting. It's funny because If I get a stored value, I'm going to have to buy for all three trains! Gamit na gamit ko na sila! And plus, the walking's good for the heart! Yun nga lang, pawis ever o kaya siksikan, and fortunately, I don't travel during the peak hours. There. Now, I have to get ready to try that Katipunan-V. Mapa-Ortigas route! Another new way to get around the Metro!
