Okay...I have the story of Das Boot to tell you...and no, it's not the story of the really cool German submarine movie. Read on and discover for yourselves.
So, yesterday I went to the VA for lab work and a follow up appointment . I got 8 tubes of blood taken and a hi-res CT scan of my sinuses and chest/ lungs. At the follow up appointment I mentioned how my foot has been hurting. She nodded, scheduled an x-ray and told me to go to Prosthetics to get a support shoe/ brace thing...she was rather vague on that part.
Thankfully, the Nurse realized that if my foot hurt and I had to go across the Hospital facility, that maybe I needed a wheelchair and a driver (sounds better than Pusher). So this really nice guy named Jimmy pushed me across the place to Prosthetics. There I waited for my support shoe/ brace thing. The chief of Prosthetics helped me and she said she had nothing, however she called Kinesotherapy to see if they had anything.
Once Jimmy took me to KT, the head person there told him to take off. He talked to me, examined my foot and said that he didn't have anything for me. What he did do was take me over to Poditry, which was clear across the hospital. He pushed me over and got a few ankle braces to try on my foot.
While we were there one of the foot docs comes in and asks whats up. He explains the problem and what he turned up in his physical examination. She ponders briefly and asks if there are any x-rays. I say no but some were ordered. The Poditry nurse checks on the order and it's in. So dude from KT wheels me over to x-ray for a whole foot and ankle series.
At X-Ray I got asked my favorite question, Is there any chance you could be pregnant, and I felt a little saucy. I responded with, "Since I am in a same sex ralationship, that would be a bit difficult." The tach chuckled and replied that it was quite true.
Once the pics were done, KT guy wheeled me back to Poditry, where the Doc was waiting. Now behind the scenes the consult for the support shoe/ brace thingy had gone from place to place with me, with the transfer to Podrity taking place while I was getting Nuked. Instead of waiting a month, I went right in.
The doc examined the pics and consulted with KT guy. She then prodded my foot for her own examination. The result, I have massively sprained a tendon in my foot. It is an unusual sprain, one the usually results in tearing. So, I was given the big black boot like thing, with straps to wear for 6 weeks. It is huge, ungainly and uncomfortable. However, it should fix things.
I have named it Das Boot.
Thank you for reading.
