Clarendon Encapsulated

Larry and I met up with my friend JB from college tonight for dinner. JB and I planned debates in college and he's currently working in DC in between semesters attending fancy schmancy law school. We met in an ecclectic neighborhood here called Clarendon which seems to be a watering hole for people who like to go out and have a good time, but aren't into all the pretenses of sex, money, and power in Dupont or Adams Morgan (well AM is really about the sex more than anything else I guess....).  Clarendon also has a fun salsa dancing place.

We had a great time chatting it up like it was old times. I think I can honestly say, he's my favorite Republican :) . Anyway, as we were at a restaurant, along comes a girl I recognize from class who stops JB to say "hi." It was Jen, from my Chinese class! What a strange, small world it was eating Mexican/Salvadoran food outside as the shadows grew longer. I keep forgetting what a huge contingent our college has up here, but it's a nice feeling. Almost like you can carry a piece of all the good things about a place you loved, with you--and the people who were cool have stayed cool.

But dinner was also nice because it felt a little bit like I had stolen a piece of the weekend away and kept it to unwrap it after a stressful Monday. You know how it is when everything decides to happen at once and everyone's in a bad mood....it's not fun.

Now, I'm back at home. Had a cookie, a glass of milk, and am finishing up a little bit of work before book and bed. Tomorrow is going to be a looooong day.
