Bones Fanfic #1: More Pain in the Heart

A/N: This is my first attempt at writing a fanfic. As a bona fide Bones fan, it is inevitable that my thoughts are along the lines of a Bones story. I know this is a very short one, as stories go. Please let me know how I went. All comments, suggestions and criticisms are welcome!
Just another day at the Jeffersonian Institute. Scientists, technicians, security guards, all going about their businesses of the day.
Hodgins sat at his station, his baby blue eyes staring at the scrolling pictures on his computer screen with great concentration. An enlarged picture of a yet-unknown specimen was also on the screen, waiting patiently for the operator to make the identification. While his fingers were systematically manipulating the mouse and keyboard, an impatient string of words softly flowed out of Hodgins' mouth:
"C'mon, c'mon. You're not a blastocladiomycete, nor are you a neocallimastigomycete. What are you? C'mon, show yourself.”
After several more minutes of mumbling, suddenly a loud cheer erupted from Hodgins' mouth, startling a few of the scientists walking by.
“Aha, gotcha! You are Orpinomyces joyonii! There’s no escaping the eyes and brain of Jack Hodgins!”
With a smile of victory on his face, hands fisted and raised to both sides of his head in a show of strength, he turned to his right, but his smug shout of "King of the Lab!!" did not make its way out of his mouth before the stark realisation hit him. He could always be King of the Lab now. There’s no more Zack to challenge him in the quest to be King of the Lab. Zack is here no more. And at this moment of discovery, a sharp pain rammed through Hodgins' heart.
