Appropriately enough, these characters don’t write “diaries,” they’re more into memoirs. The Originals, especially Klaus, are even more self-important than they are objectively important as an unnatural aberration. While they don’t have any moral entitlement to this kind of authority over the stories of others, they do have the power, so that’s where it’s at.

Ooooh, nice. I like this distinction. Very astute.

But I also agree with Cami, that people do want to be good.

I'm less in agreement with Cami on this one. Sigh. :\

our darling mini-Melfi

I don't get this reference. Splainy?

Cami handles pain and fear by trying to understand it. She has a list of diagnoses and explanations for everyone, and a thoughtful explanation for everything. Klaus tells her she’s his pawn in a terrifying war and she tries to figure out what he’s doing to her brain; she loses her twin, half of herself, and she sets to obsessing as if understanding will give her any closure. And Klaus is correct that it won’t, though of course he doesn’t have any moral ( ... )

SO in love with it!

Melfi as in Tony Soprano's therapist.

This is the thing that Klaus completely fails to understand about power. It's not just about brute force, it's about politics. He has shown in the first few episodes that he can skillfully manipulate people, but nobody trusts him. He may be able to overthrow Marcel but, once he has gained power, he could never maintain it.

You know, I don't even know that Klaus doesn't acknowledge that truth. I just don't think he's got the skill to pull it off, and that's why he loves chaos so much.

OH ELIJAH YOU ARE SO RIDICULOUS <3333

Ah, ok. I've only ever seen 2 episodes of The Sopranos and it was years ago, so I don't remember. Thanks for explaining.

You may be right. Keeping everyone in a constant state of chaos certainly does seem to work for him.

Elijah is trying to negotiate peace with a 16-year-old. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING, BRO.

He's thinking - "Katerina, is that you? I, mean, Elena, oops...Davina, it's Davina, right." Elijah loves reasoning with the confused teenies.

I'm loving this show. Madly.

Cami as Melfi is perfect - and soon, she may have to be Cami as The Hand because Klaus just can't figure out how to keep the serfs in place.

Yesssss! Also, uhm, so is Elijah? ;)

I can't wait for Marcel's. He's part of the family in that regard. Lulz.

Ahahahahaha. This. A thousand times this.

Awwwww I LOOOOOOOOOOVED Cami. I'm not sure I agree with her. Idk. It's... bleak.

WHAT DID I SAY OVER THE SUMMER about Elijah being obliviously deluded about his diplomatic skills

YOU CALLED IT. Have you seen the preview for next week? I won't spoil you just in case but I lol'd at Elijah's diplomacy. It's sweet that he tries and he thinks he's good though. Bless him.

tvd: of gods and mikaelsons, tvd: who's afraid of the big bad wolf?

AHHHHHHHHH SO MUCH TAG LOVE! SO MUCH. :DD

HE SO IS. I liked him from the start, but I do get more and more fond of Marcel as we get to know him.

I have seen next week's preview and I LAUGHED AND LAUGHED. I cannot wait to watch Elijah get outplayed by yet another child. On reflection, he might stand a little bit more of a chance against Davina, because I think she's a lot like Klaus in her being so able to rely on brute force that she wouldn't be keen on soft power, and then she's been isolated for a couple of years so she'll be especially unsophisticated. So....maybe it'll be a fair fight? BLESS HIS HEART.

Same here. Apparently he's starting to bore a lot of people, which O______o

I have seen next week's preview and I LAUGHED AND LAUGHED.

SAME. My favourite part was when he said that his role in their potential agreement would be 'to keep my brother in line'!

Ahahahaha.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Bless him for even dreaming that he could be of use in that capacity. BLESS HIM.

So....maybe it'll be a fair fight?

Yes! I completely agree with your assessment of Elijah/Davina. It could go in Elijah's favour, for sure, especially as Klaus has already done a lot of the groundwork for Elijah, so he can just go ahead and release the 'good cop'.

I do think that all things being equal, people would choose to be good? I just think we all cave at some point, and the world is terrible, and enough of us give up so easily that it's pretty much irrelevant.Yeah, maybe. I think most people would choose to be good. Nevertheless, I don't think it's ( ... )

What's the definition of insanity? Trying to do the same thing for a thousand years straight even though it NEVER WORKS EVER? But I can't wait to watch him try, lol.

ahaha, and then he'll swan around like Klaus had nothing to do with it.

Probably the single most surprising thing about the show so far is the fact that it has made me legitimately interested in Klaus in his own right. I think switching him over from an antagonist to a protagonist has made a world of difference. It's also very obvious that the writing team likes him and is seriously interested in him--possibly more than any other character? Maybe? Whatever it is, it's working. Actually it might be a little too persuasive for my own good.

ahahahahaha, EXCELLENT! He's awful, but he's interesting, for sure.

I wonder how Marcel would have reacted if he hadn't felt secure that he already "had" Davina. One of the things that makes Klaus so unpredictable is that he often acts like someone who's got nothing to lose, which lets him take insane risks--I'd thought until now that he and Marcel were very similar types, but it was interesting to see them respond differently to Davina That's a really good point. Marcel seems generally more confident in....his abilities? other people's good faith? maybe his ability ( ... )
