- Taylor Clark has repeated his bait-and-switch schtick of reporting on a genuinely interesting phenomenon/study, making up a wildly unsubstantiated justification that just so happens to coincide with his uber-mainstream conviction that women re pweshus airheaded flowers, and selling it as Edgy!Unconventional!Wisdom! In this case, Clark reports on a study showing that girls and boys are roughly equally disposed to anxiety disorders. It starts with a promising rebuttal of gender essentialism, but then turn into a diatribe about how men are just better at dealing with anxiety, because all little girls are princesses who get coddled whenever the hint of a tear wells up in their pretty little eyes. (Link to Jezebel, because I'm embarrassed to have given that crap even my own click.) From my admittedly exactly-as-scientific perspective, it is of course painfully clear that a lifetime of supergirl expectations, internalization of impossible standards, and also the plague of ugly armpit skin are clearly the causes of higher anxiety among women, whereas the male of the species can anticipate being not just respected but actually paid to make up dumb shit all day every day, and is therefore that much more likely to have the ability to chill.
