it's very sunny here

Hello, internet! I'm in California! At least for the next fourteen or so hours!

I've been staying with the wonder ivy_rat and her family for since last Friday and it has been AWESOME. I attended the famous Game Night which I've been hearing about for the length of my friendship with Ivy and met a bunch of Ivy and Scott (and Winter and Sky)'s friends, who were all hilarious and had a great time eating sushi and talking about all sorts of random things and playing a rapidfire version of Trivial Pursuit where we just read questions and shouted out the answers. I also got some holiday shopping done and did Hanukkah and took what was basically an eating tour of Southern California and I never want to eat again ever, until I am at pearl_o's and we are eating there.

Ivy, Sky, and I went to the Museum of Jurassic Technology which is one of the coolest museums I have ever been to. I want to LIVE THERE. It is so delightfully bizarre. After seeing Sky off to her ride back to school the next day, we went up the coast and wandered around Santa Barbara and drove along the ocean and it was super great. Yesterday we spent the day at Disneyland, and today we've been mostly hanging out. I did some reading and writing and we're maybe going to see The Muppet Christmas Carol tonight. Ivy's not feeling great, so we may stay in. WE'RE CHANGEABLE, etc.

It's been really great to be here and see everyone! I had never met Sky before Friday (Ivy and Winter took a trip to NYC for Winter's birthday a few years ago and I hung out with them there, so I'd met Winter before and the very first time I met Ivy she was with Scott.), and it's been cool hanging out with all four of them. Sky and Winter are both less than ten years younger than me (sorry, Ivy), so I shouldn't be surprised at how intelligent and articulate they are. And they definitely are. I've also enjoyed getting to talk more with Scott. The only family member whom I'm at odds with is Bucky, who is a dog and HATES me.

Like, intensely. But randomly? He barks at me incessantly whenever I come into the house, but then there are times where he'll be chilling on the floor or Ivy's lap and I'll be sitting somewhere reading or on my computer and all of a sudden, with no warning, he jumps up and starts going crazy barking at me. I really don't get it. I don't even have to move, guys. Literally between one breath and the next, he'll lose his shit. He's tiny and he doesn't bite or even jump that much, but...seriously, dude, I've been here almost a week. Chill out.

(The only person this dog hates more than me is Scott. When Scott and I are both in the room, he def defaults to barking angrily at Scott, which is probably too bad for Scott, given that he has to live here.)

The weather here is INSANE. I don't know how you people do it. For the first few days, I was super into 70 degrees and sun, but now I keep thinking, "IT'S CHRISTMAS. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE COLD. WHY ARE YOU WEARING SHORTS WITH THAT CHRISTMAS SWEATER? WHAT IS EVEN GOING ON HERE?"

(The time zones are also killing me. I keep forgetting that the east coast is so far behind, and I'm still halfway on east coast time. Even worse, it's my version of east coast time, which has me rising at 5am EST and going to bed at 9:30pm EST, SO. Basically my sleep schedule is a mess.)

Tomorrow morning I fly out to Portland and I'll spend a few hours wandering around and exploring and writing and then I will collect pearl_o and probably keep her forever. That's how that works, right? For now, I'm going to pick at this story a little more, make sure my Kindle is charged, and maybe drink some water because all I've had today is coffee and I'm starting to get a headache.

ivy is the best, vacation, friends
