Good morning (afternoon?), Internet! I am back from my vacation. I'm so tired. SO TIRED. :( :( :( When I got home last night, there was a lot of hugging and begging to never leave again that I'm sure mcwonthelottery will use against me in the future, but, ugh. I'm done traveling for a while. People can come visit me.

***

IN OTHER NEWS, one of the things I managed to do while I was away was finish reading the secret_mutant gifts! So! Recs!

First off, I know I already recced it once, but it bears repeating:

The Xavier-Lehnsherr Academy for the Gifted: 1973 (14607 words) by listerinezero
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Characters: Erik Lehnsherr, Charles Xavier, Lorna Dane, Moira MacTaggert, Alex Summers
Summary: A year in the life of Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, co-founders of the world's first school for mutants, one month at a time.

GUYS THIS FIC IS BASICALLY EVERYTHING I'VE EVER WANTED OUT OF LIFE. The AMAZINGLY LOVELY listerinezero not only put in all the aspects of all my prompts, but also went back through all my old fic and pulled some of my other favorite tropes as well. This is 14k of fic where Charles and Erik run a mutant school, Erik has an awkward relationship with the teenage daughter he didn't realize he had, and general shenanigans happen as Charles and Erik continue to navigate the complexities of their relationship. It's so warm and fun and sweet and brilliant and PERFECT and I couldn't have asked for a better present. It's everything I could have wanted ♥

Not Easy Being Green (3098 words) by heyjupiter
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier, Nick Fury/Moira MacTaggert
Characters: Erik Lehnsherr, Moira MacTaggert, Charles Xavier, Nick Fury
Summary: "Surely you're not serious," he said.
"Don't call me Shirley," Moira said, trying to keep a smirk off her face. "I'm showing you the ropes, remember? Now, do you want to be Kermit or Miss Piggy?"
Erik enlists Moira's help to get the perfect Christmas gift for his Muppet-loving boyfriend, Charles. Moira returns to her cosplayer roots and guides Erik through his first con. She's only doing it for Charles, and maybe because she misses fandom a little.

A treat from bessiemaemucho where Moira is a former fandom denizen and takes Erik to a con. IT IS HILARIOUSLY WONDERFUL, GUYS.

heart wrapped in clover and you (1137 words) by ninemoons42
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Characters: Erik Lehnsherr, Charles Xavier, Kitty Pryde, Ororo Munroe
Summary: They fall asleep to each other, and wake up to music and memories and golden sunlight.

PJ and I inadvertently exchanged treats about retired old dudes napping together. I REGRET NOTHING. This fic is like a warm hug ♥

And, aside from the stories written for me (which were obviously TOP NOTCH), here are my other recs:

Art first!
Secret Mutant Entry (0 words) by ClawfootTub
Relationships: Irene Adler/Raven Darkholme
Characters: Raven Darkholme, Irene Adler (X-Men)
Summary: Raven accidentally runs her bike into Irene on a wintry day. Cue Raven running after Irene trying to make amends, warm afternoons spent sipping hot cocoa together, and budding romance. Also, lots of cuddles.

Super, super cute wordless comic about Raven and Irene meeting and falling in love. The art style and colors on this are SO COOL.

Christmas Bakery (0 words) by ratcreature
Relationships: Mystique & Charles Xavier
Characters: Raven Darkholme, Charles Xavier
Summary: Charles is making some Christmas cookies together with Raven during the first holidays Raven stays in Westchester.

Little Charles and Raven baking cookies together. IT'S JUST AS CUTE AS IT SOUNDS!

Visitors (1 words) by paperstains
Characters: Raven Darkholme, Charles Xavier, Mystique
Summary: In retrospect, he shouldn't have been surprised. Raven had always been the type to wander off.

Guys, I love this art SO MUCH that I made it the desktop on my computer. It's so incredibly sweet and crisp and delightful. I LOVE IT SO, SO MUCH. I just want to stare at it all day, thus the whole making-it-my-desktop thing.

And the stories!
The Greendale Dazzlers (2008 words) by winterhill
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Characters: Erik Lehnsherr, Charles Xavier, Raven Darkholme, Moira MacTaggert, Angel Salvadore, Armando Muñoz, Sean Cassidy, Alex Summers, Dean Craig Pelton, Dazzler
Summary: If Erik really does kill the Dean on the Library steps, they’re probably going to have to disband the study group. Fusion with Community, for the prompt “Community AU, where they're all members of a mutant study group and hilarity ensues.”

All you need to know about this story is that Erik is a more angry, slightly-less hipster Britta, Alex and Darwin are Troy and Abed, Dazzler is Lady Gaga, and the Dean remains the Dean. IT IS SO GOOD, GUYS.

Baby, It's Cold Outside (1765 words) by heyjupiter
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier, Remy LeBeau/Rogue
Characters: Erik Lehnsherr, Charles Xavier, Kitty Pryde, Ororo Munroe, Remy LeBeau, Rogue (X-Men)
Summary: "It's just, this is my first Chanukah away from my parents. And it's--it's like 90 degrees out."
Erik Lehnsherr and Kitty Pryde celebrate a Genoshan Chanukah. It's a little different from the way it used to be in New York, but some unexpected visitors help them embrace the spirit of the holiday season.

I loved this prompt of misswinterhill's when I first saw it roll in and I love Hannukah fic, obviously, so this was a hit with me. A very cute story about adjusting to a new life away from the familiar, and also Erik is forced by Charles to have feelings, which is always fun XD

Good manners (will get you far) (8122 words) by ximeria
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Characters: Erik Lehnsherr, Charles Xavier, Fabian Cortez, Raven Darkholme, Edie Eisenhardt
Summary: Charles had been looking forward to the performance at the Met for ages. Little did he know, things would not go according to plan.

So this was one of the first stories of the fest I read. It was one of the first submitted and I found the concept intriguing enough that I (sneakily) clicked on it before the fest went live on a night when I was bored and there was no other good new fic. SO worth the sneak peak. It lives up to the cuteness of the premise. Edie plays a delightful role, and the story uses circumstance rather than the dreaded misunderstanding trope to drag out the tension. Very fun read.

Years Falling Like Grains Of Sand (3888 words) by fengirl88
Rating: Mature
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Characters: Erik Lehnsherr, Charles Xavier, Raven, Emma Frost, Azazel (X-Men), Alex Summers
Summary: Seven years after they met and parted, Charles and Erik meet again in the most unlikely place.

This is a cool sort of Before Sunrise premise--Charles and Erik meet and spend a fabulous fortnight together, but promise no strings even though they're both smitten. Seven years later, they both end up at the same concert and admit the nature of their feelings, which haven't cooled despite the passage of time. There's a great soundtrack of Magnetic Fields songs as well, which is awesome as it's my headcanon for quite a few modern AUs that Erik is a fan :)

Ananas Comosus (5243 words) by winterhill
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Characters: Erik Lehnsherr, Charles Xavier, Mystique
Summary: So they do Christmas Charles’s way, but Erik has a surprise for New Year. Holiday AU in which Erik and most of the others stayed. Some h/c as they adjust to life after Cuba.

A mutant school AU where Erik and the others stay. Despite not celebrating the holiday, Erik decides that what Charles needs to help with the post-paralysis funk is the perfect Christmas present. When he can't find it, he sets out to make it himself. I love misswinterhill's Erik because he manages to be tender and so very much in love with Charles without veering out of character or losing any of his hard edges. It's a hard line to walk with canon Erik and a lot of writers (myself included) end up making him just a little too fluffy. misswinterhill nails it :D

Trigger Discipline (3931 words) by kaydeefalls
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Characters: Raven Darkholme, Moira MacTaggert, Erik Lehnsherr, Charles Xavier
Summary: In which Raven learns how to fire a weapon, and maybe even when not to.

Raven and Moira centric fic! Raven asks for weapons training and Moira obliges. While learning how to safely handle and respect a weapon, she finds herself applying this new way of thinking to the world around her and averts some of the beach catastrophe. I love this because it spotlights Raven's perspective and gives her ~*agency*~ in the beach scene.

Somebody Told Me (8427 words) by firstlightofeos
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier, Azazel (X-Men)/Mystique
Characters: Erik Lehnsherr, Charles Xavier, Emma Frost, Mystique, Azazel (X-Men), Janos Quested
Summary: A few years after Cuba, the Brotherhood learns of a troubling alliance between Charles and the CIA, threatening Erik and Charles's fragile truce.

Don't like the summary scare you--this fic is hilarious. Without giving too much away, Charles' "alliance" with the CIA isn't all it seems and Erik ends up eating some of his words when he confronts Charles about it. Fun and sweet and it doesn't totally write off Moira, which gives it extra gold stars in my book :D

A Cup of Sugar (6182 words) by littledust
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier, Armando Muñoz/Alex Summers
Characters: Erik Lehnsherr, Charles Xavier, Angel Salvadore, Raven Darkholme, Alex Summers, Armando Muñoz, Hank McCoy, Sean Cassidy, Jean Grey, Scott Summers, Ororo Munroe, Moira MacTaggert
Summary: 1963 in the Xavier mansion's kitchen.

I can't not rec this, even though I feel sneaky doing it because I hung out every step of the way for this one. FOR GOOD REASON, THOUGH! A year in the life of the tenuously clustered beginnings of the mutant school. Each month spotlights a different character as they share a comfort food with the others to continue to forge their little family. Charles and Erik are perfect bookends, Erik starting the year off heaped in guilt and frustration and just starting to allow himself to seek forgiveness and Charles ending the year by taking care of Erik and insisting he come back to bed. Just...so sweet and perfect and everyone's faces are the best faces ♥

Do You See What I See? (2718 words) by heyjupiter
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Mystique/Angel Salvadore
Characters: Mystique, Angel Salvadore, Emma Frost, Charles Xavier, Moira MacTaggert
Summary: Mystique, Angel, and Emma infiltrate a political fundraiser Christmas gala, but they soon discover that they're not the only party crashers. Still, they gather some useful data--and plenty of free champagne.

More Raven-centric fic! Raven, Angel, and Emma have to infiltrate a fancy party. Charles is the last person Raven expects to see there, and when she does, she has to think about what it is she's doing. It's a very bittersweet story, but Raven comes through it stronger in the end.

Northern Lights (3813 words) by garrideb
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Characters: Erik Lehnsherr, Charles Xavier
Summary: Erik experiences a frightening new aspect of Charles's telepathy while rescuing him from captivity. But while it might frighten Erik, that doesn't mean he'll run away from Charles.

This was another bittersweet story. It starts with Erik pre-movie, chasing down a mark and seeing the Northern Lights for the first time. Back in the post-beach "present," he wakes up in a lab from which he has to save Charles. Charles needs to do some frightening tricks with his telepathy to get them out, making for a fascinating read and an ending full of hope that dispels some of the earlier loneliness. I feel like one of the themes with Charles and Erik is the repetition of "you're not alone" and this story illustrates that in about a dozen different ways.

The Opposite of People (9217 words) by kaydeefalls
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Characters: Charles Xavier, Erik Lehnsherr, Raven Darkholme, Sebastian Shaw, Alex Summers, Ensemble, Logan (X-Men), Armando Muñoz, Hank McCoy, Ororo Munroe, Jean Grey
Summary: In retrospect, it probably didn't help that the first time Charles met Erik Lehnsherr, the man was up a ladder in well-worn, close-fitting jeans.
Modern!nonpowered!AU where they all work in the theatre, Shaw is still a bastard, and Charles is doing his best to get this damn show open with his sanity (relatively) intact.

If you've ever worked in theatre or know anyone who has, you MUST read this story. It's spot-on and hilarious and the slow-burn romance between Charles and Erik is played out fantastically. There are parts where you'll giggle out loud and parts where you'll smack your forehead in frustration and also there is kissing! What's not to love? A really well-cast modern AU.

So, those are my secret_mutant recs! Please read and comment and Kudos and spread the love!

charles/erik, i guess i'm in xmen: fc fandom now, rec, secret_mutant
