I had a seriously hard time falling asleep last night, internet, and now I'm paying for it. In tiredness. Which I guess would have been apparent without clarification. When I did sleep, it was one of those dumb sleeps where you open your eyes, thinking only a few minutes have passed, and actually your alarm is blaring and you don't feel rested at all. THE WORST D:
But I have coffee and it's Friday and all of us have kind of checked out, so I'll survive. Probably.

Recs!
So, instead of writing, I've been betaing a lot of things. Well, partially instead of writing, partially because betaing is ~*a give and take*~ and I owe
pearl_o a lot of giving after the amount of whining I do to her when I am writing. (Also, betaing means you get to read the story first and tell the author how great it is, and, I don't know if you guys know this about me, but all my friends are awesome at stories.)
Anyway. RECS.

I'll read slave AUs if they're about my OTP, but I don't go searching them out specifically and if I'm making a list of things I want to see in fic, I probably wouldn't think to add them. All that's to say, when Pearl told me she was writing this I was like, "cool!" but didn't give it any more thought except for "Yay, new fic from Pearl! She's good at writing stories!" (Unlike, for example, when she told me
she was writing a somnophilia fic and I made high pitched noises and flapped my hands around happily.) (Also, read that one too, immediately.) what Pearl does with this is a thing of beauty. It was for the "class fantasies" kink bingo square and instead of being the usual cut and dry "Character A buys Character B and they fall in love despite the power dynamics" sort of relationship, there's a Charles looking for other mutants (and who has no intention of "using" the slave he's purchased to that end) and Erik who's wary of kindness (especially from the strange man in a wheelchair who bought him) and a super hot sex scene and it's great all around. GO READ IT. And come back when you're done!
Are you back? Okay. Another beta!brag:

MAN GUYS, THIS FIC IS AWESOME. It's an AU that just changes one thing from the movie - instead of going after the kids, Shaw goes to Russia as planned with the intention of going after Charles. From there, it breaks off and follows Charles, who surrenders himself to Shaw to save Erik and is held captive for three weeks. It's a really brilliant study of Charles and what could cause him to go from pacifist to someone whose sense of right and wrong is just slightly greyer, but who still has the scruples to feel badly about the shift. (This isn't dark!Charles, don't worry.) It introduces Piotr Rasputin as an ally for Charles and actually explains why Shaw's plan was so senseless and a better way to get rid of him that doesn't lead to a messy beach divorce. Charles' disappearance makes Erik reassess what's important to him and realize there's life beyond revenge. As always,
kaydeefalls' characterizations and character interactions are brilliant. It's just a great story all around and you should 100% settle in and read it.

I don't read tags anymore because I'm old, so I wasn't expecting this story to be as funny as it was. And it was funny! It's a realistically funny story--there are laughs, but there's also adventure and anxiety and it's not cracky or out of character. A few years post-Cuba, Erik hates running the Brotherhood, hates his followers, and is still anxiously waiting for Charles to admit he's wrong so they can recombine forces and Erik can go back to the mansion. A conspiracy from within the Brotherhood leaves Erik needing rescue, but the return to the mansion is not the homecoming Erik expected and he needs to reevaluate his ideas about the future and his place in Charles' life. Very sweet and funny and fun.
A Very Special Episode by

OKAY. I...was not expecting to love this as much as I did. Seriously. Erik's a big up and coming movie star. He's gay and out and, during a teasing interview with a reporter friend, says that he'll do an episode of My Little Ponies if he can play a gay pony. When the script shows up and Erik actually likes it, he's warily interested in the role and gets more interested once he discovers that his former boyfriend and best friend, Charles, is the showrunner and will be playing his character's love interest. It's a super interesting story where Charles and Erik talk about their problems like adults (a MAJOR story kink of mine, given how infrequently it happens) and there's also some really cool meta about queer representation in media and the power of internet fandom and stuff like that. SO COOL.
