It's the first week of summer in the northern hemisphere and my part of the world has decided to celebrate this fact with a freak heatwave. Thanks a lot, summer. Way to ease us into it

Before Rita (and Zedd) had started attacking, Angel Grove had normal California weather. That meant that they were used to it being fairly hot in the summer.
Of course, once Rita attacked, such odd things had happened as snow in the middle of August (although that had technically been the fault of a visiting alien who had a crush on Billy), storms that had been entirely confined to Angel Grove's borders, and of course the time that Angel Grove and only Angel Grove had experienced a solar eclipse. (Billy had tried to explain the theory of it to the other Rangers, but since Trini was the only one who was understanding more than one word out of three, his explanation had stopped when Kimberly began threatening to blow up his computer.)
So when Angel Grove was hit with temperatures of over 100 degrees in the middle of February, most of the city assumed that it wasn't global warming that was to blame (considering that neighboring Stone Canyon was just fine), but that instead Rita and Zedd were planning something.
Most of the citizens were desperately trying to remain in their homes in the comfort of their air conditioning, but as usual, five teens were gathered in Ernie's Juice Bar and Youth Center, drinking the smoothies that Ernie was always providing them free of charge. (Trini had once wondered if Ernie had figured out their secret identities, but Jason was still convinced that Ernie had fallen for his 'Power Rangers are aliens' story.)
"Zordon hasn't said anything yet," Jason said in a low tone.
"We're still running tests," Billy added. "But so far nothing has explained what is causing this particular increase in temperatures. The climate monitoring system that Alpha and I built can't explain this at all."
"And nobody has been attacked by Putties or anything?" Jason pressed.
The group shook their heads and all continued to drink their smoothies, before a familiar set of beeps chimed from Jason's communicators. The teens leaned closer in.
"Go ahead."
"Rangers," Zordon's voice boomed from the communicator. "Lord Zedd's Sizzler monster is attacking downtown. You must go and stop it immediately, before Angel Grove is burnt to a crisp."
"We're on it, Zordon," Jason said. Without another word, the five teens rose up, abandoning their smoothies, and went off to beat the heat.

That's adorable! I remember when you floated this idea on Twitter, and I'm glad you went with it. Your writing style is great at capturing how routine this really weird stuff is for these kids -- really perfect.

Poor Billy trying to explain things. At least Trini understands him.
