Good morning, internet. I am not in jail for property damage this morning. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is yet to be seen

I'm not saying Steve is a Klansman or anything but I just think anyone raised in that era would have a lot of internalized racism tha he would not know quite what to do about. It's one thing to have a black guy in your squad when you're ~Captain America~ and he's your subordinate, and it's another thing when you're Captain America and he's Nick Fury. Like I just imagine he'd keep trying to go through Coulson b/c he seems more like a "leadership figure" to Steve. I don't think he'd be overtly racist but Nick could totally tell because he can smell internalized racism. I mean I think there are plenty of white people TODAY who would be a little secretly uncomfortable with a black boss and I think that for a white bro raised before WWII he would have had to have been raised on some kind of proto-hippie commune to be 100% fine with it.
Also duh he was ok w/Peggy because she was pretty and Steve just wanted to be in the army soo bad he didn't care if a British lady was inexplicably in charge of him as long as he was really a US soldier, and he kept double checking and the uniform still said USA, so OK.
OK anyway those are my thoughts about Steve Rogers and period-appropriate internalized racism, please look for them soon in a fic no one will be interested in reading. (I will file it next to my XMFC fics about everyone's internalized homophobia AND racism.)
