It starts in fits--coming, going, phasing. In, out. It must be the drugs, it must be.

Shifting back and forth, or trying, Charles lifts himself up, as best he can, and tries to orient himself.

His mind isn’t reaching far. He can’t seem to push himself into the hallway. It’s never been this hard for him.

Calm yourself, he mentally prods, knowing that there’s a valid explanation ( ... )

He's determined if nothing else. I don't think that changes from the Prof X we saw in FC or what we know from the first movies.

It's been an hour and neither of them have moved. They've barely spoken, really, and the ticking of the old grandfather clock feels loud enough to make the walls shake. Erik is pointedly not looking at the wheelchair, nor anywhere near it, which gives Charles the advantage of being able to study him without being studied in return. The past five years have not been kind to Erik--he's sharper and looks exhausted, edgy, anxious. Charles knows he's lost his own boyish charm, but he'd like to think he's more settled than Erik, that he's aged without quite so many worry lines ( ... )

So gorgeous. I don't really try to connect the first X-Men movies with First Class, but I always wondered how Charles and Erik got from the beach to playing chess and fighting over ideological differences again.

My heart wants to break into tiny pieces from this, I will have you know.

It's heartfelt in that pain, however. Watching two loves become enemies isn't easy to convey over an awkward conversation, but this does just that.
