I also read the comics in the 90s. And I've been reading X-Men again for the last year or so, since Second Coming started, but Erik and Charles haven't made an appearance in them. I don't know where they are, really. I think I'm going to have to wiki the previous arc and see what's happening with them. (Scott is leader right now, with Emma as his right hand.)
FWIW, Charles & Erik are currently doing stuff together with the X-Men in the X-Men: Legacy series, but there hasn't been much focused on their relationship lately for whatever reason.
That's good to know, actually. I'll have to add it to my pull list. I don't even mind if they're not on screen together. It'll just be nice to catch up with them again.
They are rejuggling all the lineup of the x-books soon, I think? But there was a 'special' Legacy issue that came out this week (special = it costs $5!!!) and one of the stories in it has Charles & Erik on a team together and suggests that's a new status quo.
It's not really a super great comic and it references a bunch of ongoing storylines but it'll somewhat get you up to speed. Also there's a New Mutants reprint in the back so yay for that?
Yay for that. :) My friend just gave me a list of titles and arcs that touch on the Erik and Charles backstory going back to the 70s, so it'll be fun to find and catch up with those.
Hahaha, it's funny, I have so many feeling about Erik, but not nearly as many as I have about Charles XD SUCH IS MY LOT IN FANDOM.
I sort of know what's going on in the current Marvel titles via a lot of my comics-savvy flist, but yeah, I haven't read myself in about ten years. And now, at the poorest I have ever been in my life, is probably not the best time to pick them up again.

I have almost all of the Second Coming arc (minus two issues if I can't find them) and the plain old X-Men title 1-8 (they restarted the numbering for whatever reason) just taking up space in my room. I'll mail them to you for free if you think you'd want to read them. I'm getting X-Men ongoing, so I can send them to you as I finish them, that's just as far as I've read up right now.
