rexmix reveals!
So, Remix happened!
This was my first Remix and I totally lucked out in being assigned someone I actually knew. It was 100% nerve-wracking in other ways, but at least it was someone whose opinions aren't wrong (like most of the internet), who has written in a lot of fandoms that I have also written in, and who was matched to be based on SGA.
(I offered SGA, TWW, and Torchwood. It wasn't until after I'd finished my Remix that I realized how TERRIBLE it would have been if I was assigned Torchwood. Because the kind of Torchwood fic that I enjoy writing? No one else is writing. I'd have probably had to write straight up Jack/Ianto fic or something, which I don't entirely enjoy, and I'd have been miserable. THANK YOU, REMIX GODS, FOR GIFTING ME WITH SGA.)
The point is, I ended up writing this for krabapple, based on her fic The Doctor For America:
They've All Come to Look for America (The Doctor's Note Remix) - Doctor Who/The West Wing, gen, G
I spent a lot of time wrestling over which of krabapple's awesome stories to choose, and once I picked this one, I spent a lot of time figuring out how to actually go about writing it before sitting down and writing the whole thing in one go. I think it turned out all right! I was afraid it would be really obvious it was me given a) the title, b) the whole bit with Sam's ~*destiny*~ in California and mentions of the water and sky and c) the reference to the "Man in the Arena" speech XD
I also wrote two Remix Madness ficlets!
it giveth light unto all in the house (the let's have some wine remix) - Good Omens, Aziraphale/Crowley, G (based on There is a Light by such_heights)
This came about totally by accident. I was in the midst of reading ALL THE GOOD OMENS FIC and wanted to write something, so I crawled through the Remix Madness opt-in post for anyone who listed GO as a fandom. I remembered a fic of Amy's (though she didn't list GO as a fandom) with Crowley and Dickens and thought about doing that and giving it a Doctor Who twist, but then I read this and it connected with something in my brain, so out came introspective Aziraphale instead.
(Another one I thought would be obvious, given my reading ALL THE GOOD OMENS FIC and also the Godspell lyric in the title and my talking about Godspell a lot last week XD)
Hold Me Tight and Tell Me You'll Miss Me (What Dreams May Come Remix) - Dead Poets Society, Neil/Todd, G (based on Perchance to Dream by harmonyangel)
Totally a last minute addition. I wanted to do something else for someone I knew. Initially, I was going to remix another of krabapple's SGA stories that I love, but it was super long and I didn't have time to reread it. I saw Jen had signed up for Remix Madness, remembered MY FAVORITE FIC OF HERS EVER, and went to town. Initially, it was going to be a super happy story where Neil's suicide was a dream and Neil and Todd were living idyllically in New York and it... morphed from there. It's a lot darker than the things I've been writing recently, but I like how it came out. It's hard to write happy about Neil and Todd.
Anyway, Jen immediately guessed it was me, but kept up the charade of anonymity until today XD Probably because I never shut up about how much I love her fic.
Anyway, if you haven't already, go read all the originals. I am seriously lucky in that I am friends with super talented people and all the originals are awesome. Also, go give more props to mad_maudlin who wrote an incredibly amazing remix of my fic, Dear John (WIP Remix).
I'll probably be posting the actual fics to my LJ later today. I apologize in advance for the spam!
