I love the emotions you evoke with your writing, the way your humor and intelligence comes through in the characters, the care with which you craft your stories. I also understand your utter lack of assurance as I've spent the last few days avoiding writing in order to finish work on a contract that isn't even due until mid July. Or rather I've been working on it in order to avoid writing. I'll do a lot to avoid writing, it seems, even mop the kitchen floor.

All apologies in advance because I'm sure this is going to come off as horribly maternal, but I AM, so...

In addition to needing that one bit of certainty with regards to the move you need to get some sleep! And read a book, maybe read a book in the bathtub.

I'm so sorry about the situation at the store. If I get a little vodka on board at Dragon*Con I'll probably try to tell you horror stories about B&N buying up our little indy bookchain and the agonizing year of constructive dismissal we went through as it became blindingly clear that they weren't laying us off or firing us but grinding away at our functions and our sanity until we quit. Oh gee, you say, I can hardly wait to meet her now! Sorry. Let's just say I know exactly what the selling floor looks like at the end of the day during the first two weeks of summer, just like I know how it feels to sell cliff notes to The Hobbit to desperate fifteen-year-old at four minutes before close on a Sunday night and not let yourself say,"Here's the book, it's good, it's funny...you can do this".

Um, yeah, I shouldn't comment once I'm on a second glass of wine.
