bffs!

My internet was tragically out when I got home :(

It finally came back around 8pm. I was going out of my head. I beat all my previous high scores on WiiFit while waiting for it to come back.

It's back now. Obvs.

The rest of the day is pretty much a blur. I had trouble falling and staying asleep and had really weird dreams when I was asleep. I hope I sleep better tonight, because this week is CRAZY. I am seeing Fountains of Wayne on Wednesday night immediately after work, then Shit, I just realized that I'm working Wednesday night. :\ I'm going to have to tell my mom and see if she can find someone to take my ticket :\

Um, anyway, I'm closing Wednesday, opening Thursday, then going to see Katy with quatredeathlady and my friend Lauren from work. Tragically, there's a Queer YA panel at the Borders at Columbus Circle at almost the exact same time that I'm going to miss. Two authors I really like (okay, one author I really like, one author I IDOLIZE) will be there and I'm pretty bummed.

I think I made plans for Friday which I don't remember now, and Saturday Amber Benson is going to be at Midtown Comics. Sunday I think I agreed to let quatredeathlady get me drunk and laid.

So. Busy week.

I stole this meme from krabapple.

List 10 (or however many) platonic male/female relationships in fiction that you enjoy. My attempt at rules:

1. They interact in canon, preferably in a significant (apply your own interpretation of such) way.
2. They are not related. They can, however, view each other as surrogate family.
3. Neither has confessed or implied romantic love for the other in canon.
4. They have not dated, been married, had sex, or made out in canon, on purpose, and over their own free will.
5. A popular fanon ship is ok (though preferably not your ship) but a canon pairing you wish were just friends is out.
6. Try to avoid using the same character or series twice.
7. They don’t have to be friends.

1) CJ Cregg and Josh Lyman - Oh, CJ and Josh! They are total BFF. Like three other people have said so far, Josh really needed that older sister that he lost and CJ fills in nicely for Joanie. They just compliment each other very well ♥

2) Teyla + Team Sheppard - Um, without Teyla, all three of those boys would be dead. For serious. They NEED her, and I think she needs them to keep her priorities in order and to remember to have some fun once in awhile. Especially if that fun is beating the crap out of John or Ronon.

3) Mary Shannon and Marshall Mann - Okay, to be honest, like krabapple said, I think there might be some pining on Marshall's part this season, but that aside, they work best when they're working as a team. I can't remember the exact quote, but sometime in the first season, Marshall says something about how he's the only person on the planet who Mary trusts to get her, and she begrudgingly agrees. He understands her. Few other people do. A lot of people (Stan, Raph, Bobby D) put up with her, but Marshall understands her.

4) Valkyrie Cain and Skulduggery Pleasant - I love the mentor/student relationship with Valkyrie and Skulduggery. He doesn't treat her like a kid and trusts her to have his back, but also understands that this is her childhood and she should try and participate in it, to some extent. Their rapport is fantastic, and their banter is what raises the series above the rest of the random generic fantasy series out there.

5) The Doctor and Donna - No stupid pining, no romance, and not an overlot of angst until the end. I don't think The Doctor ever quite knew what he was getting into with Donna, and I like that he could never quite get a handle on her. She wasn't in awe of him--of what he could do and where he could go, yes, but never of him. It was great.

6) Harry Potter and Hermione Granger - If it weren't for Hermione, Harry would be dead. For serious. He'd have walked cluelessly into danger right from the start. Hermione kept Harry's head on straight.

7) Abby and Gibbs - Abby and Gibbs have the most awesome faux-father/daughter relationship ever. I know there are people who ship them, but in my head, Abby is the daughter that Gibbs lost and Gibbs is the mentor that let Abby spread her wings and develop into the kickass scientist she is now.

8) Jonny Quest and Jessie Bannon - Some people used to ship Jonny and Jessie. I think they'd kill themselves before they were romantic with each other. Jessie is the perfect foil for Jonny. She has just enough book smarts and self-preservation to keep Jonny from doing the TRULY stupid things, but enough of a sense of adventure to go along with his more exciting schemes. Add Hadji into this mix and they end up with enough sense not to get themselves killed all the time.

9) Veronica and Wallace - Awwww. Veronica and Wallace's friendship is something that was really lacking from the show as it went on, and it broke my heart. Wallace would do anything for Veronica and I think Veronica would do anything for Wallace, if it came down to it. Yes, she tended to use him a little, but she used everyone around her. I don't think she quite knew how to trust people and relearning took a lot of time. But in the end, their ridic BFF-ness was one of my favorite parts of the show.

10) Jack Carter and Jo Lupo - Jo was skeptical when Jack came to town, but they've grown to make an awesome team. Jo still ribs Jack most of the time and Jack still gives Jo crappy duties when he's irritated, but Jack trusts Jo, probably more than he trusts anyone in town except Henry, and Jo's opened up a lot more since Jack has been around.
