monsoon season

Today was meeting two of my writing critique group! It went really well, even though there were only three of us (quatredeathlady, ruecian and me) and only two submissions. We didn't get any actual writing done because I really wanted a cupcake and we were a quarter of the way to the cupcake place, but we sat around for a long time and talked about writing and the two pieces submitted. I feel a lot better about chapter one, though I still don't love it (I have a thing with not liking my own writing) and I'm really excited to see where Chris' story is going to go. GOOD TIMES WERE HAD.

That is pretty much what I spent the whole day doing. I took a nap after Nicole and Chris left, but it was brief and actually made me feel worse. Well, that capped with my dad yelling at the Yankees and chewing gum with his mouth open. Now I have headphones in and the world is a much lovelier place.

OH MY GOD, INTERNET, THE RAIN. I mean, seriously. I'm getting sick of it. I have a perfectly good pool outside that I still haven't been in and it's almost July! I fear it's going to overflow soon. The creek is already pushing its boundaries. I do not want a repeat of fall 1999, when the bridge was lifted off its base and carried into our neighbors' yard.

I drove through a lot of it and it varied between torrential downpour and foggy drizzle. Driving through fog is always awesome, but I could do without the torrential downpour parts of the afternoon. Also, I am now prejudiced against people who drive red minivans.

Now I'm watching one of the three NEVER BEFORE SEEN episodes of NCIS from last week. We saw two of them but missed the first because we were on an epic trip to pick up a playhouse for my aunt's former foster kids. My dad has gone to bed and the world is a much quieter, easier to handle place.

(I should clarify that when my dad shouts, it's not really in anger as much as it is that he's frigging deaf and turns the teevee up super loud, so needs to shout to be heard over it. It's infuriating.)

I think I'm going to bake some cupcakes tonight. Or read a book.

Speaking of, I randomly found my copy of I Like You by Sandol Stoddard. I frigging love this little tiny book, guys. It's super cute. I swear, the best ever, totally fool-proof way to get me to go out with you is to give me this book. I mean, I already have it, but still. It just makes me smile.

I can already tell this episode of NCIS is going to be the best. episode. ever. ABANDONED SHIP! WITH OUR TEAM STUCK ON IT! DiNozzo is cracking me up already. I want this episode to live on my DVR forever ♥

family stuff, books, critique group, ncis is the new law and order, friends
