that meme and also the oscars

Okay, so there's that meme where you talk about five things that remind people of you or whatever.

If you want me to talk about five things, leave a comment with five things for me to talk about! Also, if you want five things to talk about, leave a comment asking for five things to talk about.

Or something. Anyway, here are the five things lurkmuch asked me to talk about.

cupcakes!
Um, I love cupcakes! I don't know, I started baking an assload of cupcakes in college because I wanted to learn to decorate cakes and I figured little cakes were good practice. And they're adorable and tiny and customizable! You can fiddle around with the recipe and make, you know, twenty four completely different things all at the same time! And they are delicious!

Will Bailey
Oh my god, internet, could I love Will Bailey more if I tried? Um, when Will was first introduced, I admit to being lukewarm to him, but I did find him endearing, and he won me over by the end of S4. Oddly enough, the time that I really started to love him was S5-S7. I was so angry and confused by the direction his character very abruptly took that I kept looking back to what he was and wondering what happened to that guy. I spent a lot of time defending him to the internet and being outraged by how crazy he seemed. And. Yeah. Guys, what happened to Will sucked. He went from being an idealistic, principled guy who fought for those without voices, just to get debate on the issues. He went from running a candidate for a dead liberal in an outrageously Republican district, he went from WINNING that campaign thanks to his dedication, to running a candidate who he could care less about, just because that was what the party wanted.

It's not fair for him! Guys, Will is awesome. Seasons five and six fucked him up a lot, but remember season four, okay? And even season seven. Will's a great guy, and you should all adore him ♥ He had olives in his pockets! And Ron, the goat! And Elsie, and wanting to sleep and yelling at Sam for being a dick and... gosh, just being adorable.

Teddy Roosevelt
I didn't care that much about TR until my high school US History class. My teacher, Mr. Weinstein, was a HUGE TR fan and he showed us a documentary about him and I just... wow. Fell in love. There's a lot to be said about TR's policies and politics and all of that, and I will leave that to people who are much smarter than I am. What I will talk about is how much I utterly adore the way he was with his family. Oh my gosh, guys, he's adorable.

TR stopped work every afternoon, no matter what he was doing, in order to play with his family. He adored his children, even Alice, who he was often stilted with because of how she reminded him of her mother. (His first wife died in childbirth. After her death, TR was so grieved that he basically ran away to the middle of nowhere to get it out of his system.) He wrote them epic letters and encouraged them to do what they wanted in life. He surrounded them with books and made sure they were well rounded. He had fun with them.

And, gosh guys, they had fun too! They had so much fun in the White House, playing on the lawn, pranking dignitaries, running around their their pets, playing hide and seek... they made the White House their own, and I can't tell you how endearing I find that.

John Sheppard's "air quotes"
I hesitate to say that the air quotes are the gayest thing that John has ever done considering he once became a queen by holding a piece of shiny jewelry, but, yeah, the air quotes were pretty gay.

children's books!
Children's books are basically my life. I've always liked them more than grown-up books, to be honest, but before I started working at The Bookstore, I didn't have an excuse for that XD I think kids' books are ridiculously marginalized because grown-ups don't think they can possibly include anything worthwhile. That is just absolutely untrue, guys. Kids understand more than we think they do and kids' books are more complicated and deeper and darker than we remember. Kids look at things differently than we do, and I'm not ashamed to say they look at things better than we do. Kids' books tackle issues a lot better than some adult books because the good authors peel away the layers of pretension and grandstanding that adult books often have and just give us the bare bones and let the kids come to conclusions by themselves.

Also, they are cute.

I need like, five hours to catch up on LJing about everything I haven't LJed about yet.

Anyway, that time is not tonight. I am going to bed soon, I think. My mom is watching The Oscars and I am kind of watching with her, but I don't care that much. I see about three movies a year and they are not the type to get nominated for Oscars. I don't care enough about the ones I don't see to have any stake in what wins. So, you know, whatever.

work: bn, gay hipster sweatband, meme, tr, cupcakes, will
