nostalgia, of a kind

So, 30 Rock comes back this week, so I've been rewatching it today in order to remind myself, you know, what happened. But what's really happened is that I keep being sucked into these overwhelming waves of nostalgia for Studio 60.

It's weird. I wasn't a huge huge fan of Studio 60, although I had a lot of affection for it. I was tired of hearing about the love stories and seeing the sketches, but what really resonated for me was some of the characters, especially the Big Three and Cal. I mean, it was a show about friendships, and everyone seemed to focus on Danny and Matt, and while I liked them, it was Simon and Harry and Tommy that really caught my attention. I just... I liked them. I watched every episode for them, and every piece of fic I produced or started to produce for the show was for them. One of them, about Tom and his brother, is still unfinished and I still think about it from time to time.

It's funny, because when 30 Rock first premiered, I kind of boycotted it. Once I started to watch at the start of S2, I fell in love, but at the same time, all of these similarities started popping out. I mean, even the Big Three have counterparts in Tracey, Jenna, and Josh (although Tom got a lot more screentime than Josh gets, admittedly.). But 30 Rock managed to do two important things right where S60 flubbed up, mainly in never showing more than a hilarious taste of a sketch and in not trying to weigh each episode down with huge subplots that involve every single character.

Anyway, WAVES AND WAVES OF NOSTALGIA. I just want to hug those three. Screw everyone else. Except Cal. Cal can stay.

Wow, this entire post about about S60. That's... odd.

(Well, here's something else. I was watching the debate and just got so frustrated I changed the channel. So what did my mom do? Walk back into the room and turn it back on. THANKS, MOM. THERE WASN'T LIKE, A REASON I DID THAT OR ANYTHING. Plus she turned it back onto CNN, not CSPAN like I was watching.)
