Here are further, more coherent thoughts on Doctor Who. As a note, I haven't read any commentaries that have been posted since 1am (save for thingswithwings, and, by the way, totally unrelated, but there's a sciene beginning reader called "Things With Wings" about... I don't know, there's a butterfly on it or something. Anyway, I chuckle to myself whenever I see ( Read more... )

hey, I chose this lj name back when I was in good omens fandom! it made sense at the time! *grumble*

I'm with you on all of this, as you know - most of the problems could've been solved if they'd erased the last ten minutes, it's true. And the doctor's arc just leading him back to where he was at the beginning of the new series . . . that's totally bullshit, good call. Sarah Jane says, "don't act like such a lonely emo kid, you've got a huge family," and then the end of the show is about how . . . he's a lonely emo kid with no family? Does not compute.

and, yeah. I was so dubious about Donna at the beginning of the season, but they completely won me over, and now it feels like it was all for nothing. Now Donna's never going to have to say "I'm just a temp," because no one will ever expect her to be anything else. Wasn't the whole point of Left Turn that she was bigger than that life? Jeez.

I agree as well. It was a heart breaking episode at the end when it didn't need to be.

And yeah. The clone!Doctor thing was weird. He's always going to have this image of Rose running after the Tardis and the Doctor she actually loves. That whole scene was made of awkward.

Don't you think if the Doctor's mind was dormant until she was shocked that maybe they could have made it dormant again? Or saved her in some other way that wasn't so soul crushingly pathetic?

Damn you BBC.

I totally agree. Except the thing with me is that I was so anticipating a horrible ending that I didn't get to enjoy the joy of the all the companions and the first 45 minutes of the show. :) Seriously, even as they were flying away from the Daleks I was all: "This isn't going to end well ( ... )

Word.

Especially to this:

"And the last thing is... Donna. I mean, was there anyone happy with what happened to Donna? I really, truly wish they had just killed her or (in my idealistic heart of hearts) let her go off on her own for a little while. Having her forget how amazing she was after it took an entire season to get her to realize it on her own... having her forget it is maybe the most heartbreaking thing that this series has ever done to me. It's just... I don't even have words for it. I'm just upset and pissed off and I think it's a shitty ending for an absolutely off-the-chart-amazing character."

Kind of renders the whole fucking season as pointless, doesn't it? Why can't RTD ever just STICK it THROUGH and stop going with the easy-but-epic. Be original. This is sci-fi, you can go wherever the hell you want.
