rec + music + stuff

Oh man, so, instead of working on my yuletide story (I WILL DO THAT NEXT I SWEAR) I saw how snowy and cold it was outside and decided I'd rather drink some tea and re-read The New Atlantean Dictionary of Literary Terms. And. Guys. Remember how much I love that story?

I mean, really, this is a fandom full of cracked out AUs and stories where the boys are hairdressers or raise llamas in Idaho or are racecar drivers or fashion designers or whatever, but this is a story about how things are on Atlantis. On the whole of Atlantis. It dips into dozens of different lives that make up Atlantis as a whole, tells lots of tiny stories that interconnect and is chock full of random literary inside jokes. And it's just... it's awesome guys. It occurred to me, upon this re-reading, that the boys don't even get together until three quarters of the way through the (19k) story, but you hardly even notice.

It fills me with love. And I know that graycastle is on her way home and probably won't see this for awhile but... yes. It just fills me with love.

In non-SGA rec news, I've been promising music for like, a week, and here it is. These are three Christmas albums I can't live without.

John Denver and the Muppets - A Christmas Together

Some classics, some fun new songs, all infused with both Muppet shenanigans and Muppet joy. This is a fun album and never fails to put me in the Christmas spirit if I'm down, which is kind of a lot this time of year. I dare you to listen to "Piggy Pudding?" "No, figgy pudding, it's made with figs." "Oh, sorry." "...and bacon." "What?" without cracking up. SO MUCH JOY, GUYS. So much joy ♥

Raffi's Christmas Album

It's Raffi, guys. RAFFI. In addition to the classics, it has "Petit Papa Noel," "On Christmas Morning," and my absolute all time favorite CAP ON HEAD SUIT THAT'S RED "Must Be Santa," which I have been known to belt the lyrics to for no reason at all. CAP ON HEAD SUIT THAT'S RED SPECIAL NIGHT BEARD THAT'S WHITE! MUST BE SANTA! MUST BE SANTA! MUST BE SANTA, SANTA CLAUS!

The Roches - We Three Kings

This is just a beautiful album. It's not really gimmicky, it's not jokey, it's a beautiful Christmas album. It also contains my favorite version of "Good King Wenceslas." It's a Boxing Day carol rather than a Christmas carol, but it's such a fabulous song and this version of it is wonderful. DL IT IMMEDIATELY.

I have a fourth favorite Christmas album--Burl Ives'--but it's in my mom's car and I'm not braving the cold to go get it. Maybe later in the week.

Finally, here are some non-Christmas songs, behind the cut because this entry is getting long.

So, my poll yesterday was inspired by a conversation about The Weepies and how TWO of their songs are in commercials this season which makes me happy because they just had a baby so they could use the extra cash, I'm sure. Anyway, here are their songs that are on teevee and a couple others.

The Weepies - All That I Want
(JC Penny commercial)

The Weepies - Stars
(Old Navy commercial)

The Weepies - Painting by Chagall

The Weepies - Vegas Baby

And some random stuff:

Paul Simon - Old (came up on my parents' iPod today)

Katy Pfaffl - Disconnected (I haven't seen Katy in forever, but she friended me on FaceBook the other day and we've been talking that way and I love her.)

Dar Williams - The Christians and the Pagans (Hardly my favourite by her, but it's SEASONALLY APPROPRIATE.)

Scott Chasolen - Insomnia (This is one of my favourite songs ever in the world. I love Scott, guys.)

Elvis Costello (+ the Attractions) - Radio, Radio (I listened to this three times today for no real reason.)

Back to yuletide for realz.
