When the first dream happened, Jungmin had woken up unbelievably happy, contented with a decent sleep and a sweet dream to remember. He lay there for a few minutes, just thinking over how it had been, how it had felt.
He'd be just walking through a misty forest, the sight and smell of it all just washing over him. It smelled alive, fresh, cool, and free. The mist that swirled around him kept most of the forest just out of sight, shrouded in mystery.
Jungmin had been content to simply walk around, soaking the scenery in like a sponge soaks up water. It was calm, peaceful, a step away from the chaos he was used to. The serenity in the air...he loved it. And because it was a dream, when he appeared, it had just flowed perfectly with everything else.
Soft blank hair falling down to frame deep, dark eyes that had Jungmin captured in an instant. Those eyes matched the black shirt, jacket, and pants he was wearing, contrasted by a red sweater and his pale skin.
Nothing much actually happened. Jungmin watched him, he watched Jungmin, those eyes seeming to never end, just wells of gorgeous darkness. A small smile twitched on the man's soft lips as they just stood there, a mere ten feet separating them. A million longings suddenly flooded Jungmin's heart and mind and he just stood there, breathless, unable to act upon any single thought or want.
How long they stood there, Jungmin never really knew. It felt like an eternity and yet it also felt like an instant, a moment that ended all too quickly, as the man smiled at him and then dissolved into mist, vanishing with the forest as Jungmin slowly drifted back to the conscious world.
*~*~*
The second time the dream came, Jungmin was delighted. All day his thoughts had dwelt on the events of his dream, because he just couldn't get it out of his mind. If he concentrated, he could still smell the moss, still feel the cool dampness of the mist. The image of his dream man was still crystal clear in his mind. It made him even bouncier, even louder, to the point where Hyungjoon questioned him several times if he'd gotten too much 'happy juice' first thing in the morning. It was still in his mind when he crawled under the covers, exhausted from another long day.
There it was again, the mist like a veil, masking everything Jungmin didn't need to see just then, the forest like a palace ball room, trees dancing in and out of sight as he walked. He needed to find him again. It was all he wanted, so much so that it made him breathless as he walked faster, searching, searching, but unable to find his heart's desire.
It wasn't until he was about to give up that he appeared in front of Jungmin, perfect and completely real to him. Jungmin stood there, near enough that he could see how the other's breath stirred the mist surrounding them both.
This time, Jungmin didn't just stand there, staring. The man was just so hauntingly handsome, he was fascinated. He stepped closer, eyes darting from his nose, that smile, those eyes, becoming glued to those deep wells of emotion. What emotions? There was this strange light and warmth in them...Jungmin couldn't quite find the right word for them. But the man was smiling at him, waiting for him to get near.
Jungmin got within a few mere feet of the man and stopped, still feeling awed. “....H-hi...” It was the first word he uttered and it came out so haltingly and confused, Jungmin flushed, feeling slightly awkward. The man just smiled a little wider, his grin rather...affectionate.
“Hi, kitten~” Unlike Jungmin, the man's voice was smooth and deep, matching the rest of his perfection. It won the dream man Jungmin's smile and quite a bit more then that. Jungmin wasn't positive who moved first, but in moments, he was safely wrapped up in the other's arms, listening to his steady breathing and wondering why that seemed so special to him..
“What's your name...?” Jungmin asked, head snuggled on the other's shoulder, in such a way that he could still look up at his profile.
The man merely smiled, kissing his nose. “Not right now, Kitten.” He answered and soon the dream was over, dissolving into consciousness, a smile on Jungmin's lips.
*~*~*
The third, fourth, and fifth dreams were much the same and when the sixth dream in a row came to him, Jungmin started thinking that these dreams, while extremely pleasant, perfect, and wonderful, were also rather strange. The fact the it had come to him every single night for nearly a week was strange enough, but how realistic the dream was as well was amazing. Jungmin had gotten farther then just hugs and quick pecking and he knew for a fact that there were a few days when he woke up, while he was just as happy as always, that he had sore lips.
His dream man (in more ways then one) still had no name. Whenever Jungmin asked, he'd just brush away a strand of black hair and say 'Nor right now, Kitten.' and then he'd kiss Jungmin and all relevant thoughts vanished in an instant. Jungmin had come to nicknaming him in his head as 'Mystery-sshi' for the most part, since he seemed just as elusive as when he'd first appeared.
Despite how strange these reaccuring dreams were, Jungmin opted to not say anything about them. He happened to love falling asleep at night and finding himself in that forest again. They did more then snuggle and kiss, actually. The man was an attentive listener and while he didn't divulge much information about himself, he would always ask all the questions Jungmin wanted to hear. It made him feel special.
Mulling over it one day, Jungmin decided that this was a strange way to have a relationship, but it was also sort of nice. Convenient too, if he wanted to think about that. His mystery man was with him all night long, didn't make him feel tired, and didn't take up space in his real life. Well, he occupied a lot of his thoughts, but he made Jungmin happy, so that hardly mattered.
But there were downsides as well. He couldn't text him, couldn't spend special waking moments with him, couldn't do anything outside of a dream. A part of him reasoned that he'd been lonely and that's why these dreams had come to him. He had invented the perfect lover...in a dream.
So it wasn't perfect, but he could live with that...sort of. He hated that it was only a dream, even if it felt real. He wanted it to be truly real...
*~*~*
The seventh, eighth, and ninth dreams came and went, days becoming weeks, weeks becoming a month, two months, six months. Jungmin discovered random things about these dreams and his mystery man, like how he could actually not dream about him if he didn't want to, which actually was never, but he'd discovered it anyways. He also learned that if he didn't want to leave, he could sleep through the other members trying to wake him up. This and the discovery that his dreams did not affect his body in real life, were nice things to know.
“God...” Jungmin choked out, face buried in the other's neck as they moved together, his fingers digging into his lover's back as he arched up. Their hips met and the man hissed, nipping at Jungmin's shoulder, muscles taunt.
He thrust again and Jungmin cursed aloud, eyes rolling back as his whole body shuddered, feeling that he'd found that little bundle of nerves, effectively shattered all of Jungmin's coherency. All he could do was beg for more of it, more of him.
Only a few more breathless moments before it was all over, a dizzying fall from a great height, Jungmin feeling lazily content as 'Mystery-sshi' pulled him into another warm embrace. He loved just laying there, winding down after every mind blowing session, just dozing or playing with his lover's black hair, neatening it or messing it up even more, teasing those lips, staring at those gorgeous, gorgeous eyes.
“You need to stop dreaming about me.”
One of Jungmin's eyes flicked open, glancing up at him, not sure if he'd heard correctly, the phrase murmured so softly. “What?”
The man bit his lip, showing the first sign of uncertainty that Jungmin could recall. “You have to stop dreaming about me, Kitten.”
“Wh-what?” Jungmin was sitting up in an instant, ignoring the protest of muscles that would feel fine as soon as he woke up.
'Mystery-sshi' gently brushed his fingertips over Jungmin's cheek. “Stop dreaming, Kitten.”
“No!” Jungmin clutched onto him, his heart skipping several beats at the thought. “I..I can't! I n-need you!” The thought of not having his mystery lover was frightening. He needed him, wanted him...he even...
“I..I love you.” He finally voiced aloud the one thing he'd known for a long time now. He loved him. He couldn't let go, not now...
“I love you too.” He soothed, pulling Jungmin close, stroking his hair, making him relax in spite of himself. Jungmin loved that about him too. Though, right now he didn't want to relax, he wanted to cry. “I don't want to be your dream though...” The words made Jungmin's head spin, he was so confused all of a sudden. Things had been fine ten minutes earlier. “Please, Kitten, stop dreaming...I won't be here after this.”
“No!” Jungmin clung to him, clinging with every bit of strength he had. “You can't leave me!” But try as he might, the dream was dissolving, the man's voice becoming a mere echo as Jungmin became awake.
“I love you, Kitten~.”
For the first time in a long time, Jungmin woke up with tears in his eyes.
*~*~*
For a week, Jungmin tried to return to the forest, to him, but to no avail. He could still remember everything, but he couldn't find him. Jungmin sunk into depression, which all his groupmates attributed to overworking and tried their best to help him, but it was of no use. None of them were his 'Mystery-sshi'.
He moped and then moved on as best he could. He smiled, he laughed, but he didn't love anyone like that. Nobody made his heart flutter like that. Nobody could make him giggle and blush and squeal like that. His lover, his perfect lover, he had lost him.
He was sprawled on the couch, picking apart the frayed hem of Hyungjoon's sweater, not paying attention to anything at all until he heard something, something that made his heart stop beating, something that took his breath away.
“Sayonara nante~ owari da nante~.” The lyrics meant nothing to him...it was the voice.
That voice. His voice. Jungmin had thought he'd never hear it again, it had been so long...but there it was. He jerked upright in a flail that had everyone else in the common room looking at him. Not caring a bit, Jungmin shoved his bangs out of his face and searched for his voice. It was coming from Hyunjoong's laptop.
“What is that!?” Jungmin demanded, skidding over to his leader. “Whoisitwhoisitwhoisit?”
Hyunjoong blinked, unnerved at having a screaming Jungmin two inches from his face. Shrinking back slightly so Jungmin didn't accidentally bite his nose or anything, Leader shifted the laptop to show the video he was watching. “Uhm....Yamashita Tomohisa...? I dunno, I was browsing through a bunch of new music.”
Sayonara datte koukai datte
Futari deaeta akashi
Kimi to dakara sou omoeru
Kakegaenai sonzai
Jungmin's eyes fastened onto the screen and his heart stopped beating yet again. It was him. It was his 'Mystery-sshi'. The hair was different, brown and fluffier. The cheeks a bit more sunken in. But it was him.
Everyone stared at Jungmin as tears filled his eyes. “I found you...” He whispered in triumph.
*~*~*
“Tomohisaaaaa....Tomohisaaaaa....” Jungmin tried it out again, letting it trip and fall over his tongue. “Yamashita Tomohisa...”
His lover laughed and kissed him. “Shut up, you're wearing my name out already....Besides, most call me YamaPi.”
Jungmin pouted and snugged closer, resting his head on the other's shoulder, his fingers playing a mindless game with his lover's free hand. “But I like your name....I want a special name for you!”
“Think of that later.” Tomohisa advised with a grin. “Right now...” He rolled, pinning Jungmin down. “Think only of me.”
Jungmin giggled, blushing as he laced his fingers in the other's hair. “I love you...”
“I love you too.”
This...this was perfect. This was truly perfect, Jungmin decided, as they shared one more kiss.
It wasn't just a dream.
