Pandect : Trials of Poseidon

Nov 14, 2005 23:25

The following are a collection of ideas and concepts for a game based on an online comic called Pandect:

Basics
The game, which will be titled Pandect: Trials of Poseidon, will be an RPG / 2D fighter / tactical strategy / dating sim game with multiple endings and unlockable characters. I think the game might just cover part of the story and deviate a little or a lot from the comic's plot so that it's not like reading the comic all over again. The player gets something that comic readers don't so that encourages people to try the game. It's like the subtle differences between an anime on TV and a manga novel. Sometimes there's more/less violence and sex, sometimes peoples' backstories are explored more in depth and sometimes new characters are introduced in.

You start off as Fleance and begin the game by learning your controls exploring Poseidon academy and talking to other students and aces. Among your initial controls is the ability to switch between your animal and human form and putting humans to sleep. If a human spots you changing, you'll have to knock them out and drag them to the nurse's office, or their room. If people see you in your panther form in the school, they will freak out and then you automatically lose so it would be best to only use it when outside the school or if you were really well hidden. As an animal, your HP and MP regenerate much faster and you have access to a wider range of attacks and you can run faster. As a human, you can use simple tools (doors for example) and interact with the students and teachers. Talk to the other students and activate side-quests and start missions.

At the beginning you'll only have access to Fleance but as you progress, you will get to use other characters. If you're wondering how you can play as different people, it's very simple. Whoever you're not controlling will turn back into an NPC. NPC stands for 'non-playable character' but you can play as them so... They'll just act like NPCs but you can switch back to them when you're not doing anything.

You can play against Rose or Caesar in a game of chess to earn items like more of Edgar's healing herbs and gallery pictures. When you play against Caesar, there's a timer and if you don't win by the time it runs out, he molests you.

The story of the game is based loosely on the comic and there is a vampire on the loose. Eventually, you will find humans who have been infected by the vampire and you will have to fight them. This is where the game turns into a 2D fighter. If you win, you have to bring them to Edgar to cure/heal them.

XXX
The dating sim part comes in when two 'compatible' characters enter a conversation. You choose from a bunch of choices as to what to say to them. The answer choices are mostly modelled after the Pandect polls so some answers will be like "OMFG SEX ME UP RIGHT NOW!" and others will be "...I hate you, go away." If you reach a certain intamacy level with two characters, it might reveal an interesting cutscene... The way intamacy works is that each character has an xxx stat that increases as they level up and can be modified with equipment. Each character also has an xxx bar or gauge that starts off empty and fills slowly. xxx bars are filled when characters pick dirty things to say to each other. The success of your lines depends on your xxx stat. The higher your xxx stat, the more likely your lines will work on the other person. Successful phrases and lines will cause the other person's xxx gauge to increase as well as your own slightly. Failed lines will result in nothing happening. The more daring and erotic your phrase is, the less likely it will work and vice versa, simple and tame pick-up lines may be more successful but they won't have as much effect.

Sample Mission from the game:
Mission Seven:
Locked Out

Objective: Guide Noah through the school back to his terrarium without being spotted by humans. Remember to use Transform (R1) to change into a snake in order to get into vents and to hide from sight. Activate the Map (L1) to check your location and try not to get lost.
Time Limit: 5:00 minutes.
Reward: ???

How to unlock the characters
Fleance - Available from the beginning.
Edgar - Unlock from Password screen.
Caesar - Automatically unlocked after the first conversation.
Ice - Talk to Ice with Caesar.
Teddy Jr. - Find the teddy bear doll in the main office lost and found bin and return it to him.
Rufus - Play normally in Story Mode until he appears after his first cut scene. After that, have Ice talk to him.
Kouros - Unlocked with Rufus.
Cherokee - Talk to him with Caesar, Teddy and Fleance in that order.
Noah - Defeat 10 vampires without losing any health (you'll know when it says "Mother Approves" at the end of the battle).
Venus - Attend 20 classes without being late and have a perfect no-hall-of-shame record.
Nelson - Talk to 50 random girls in the school and choose the most erotic of all the phrases (always the first choice)
Rose - Talk to Rose with Caesar while Fleance is in the room or with Fleance while Caesar is in the room.

Also, hidden all over the game are feathers. If you collect all 100 of them, you unlock Sobre as a playable character. The last feather you win from the final boss so it's impossible to use Sobre on your first game. Sobre's pillow makes him take no damage so it's like god-mode.

Joe will also be a playable character but I'm not telling you how to unlock him.

Underwear
(All underwear must be changed every so often. If you wear one pair for too long, the word 'Dirty' will appear in front of the type of underwear (e.g. Dirty Polka-dotted Boxers) and they will give a -1 to def instead of whatever increase they were supposed to give. Also, not equipping underwear gives a natural +10 to xxx.)

Panties - +1 def, +20 xxx
Polka-dotted Boxers - +5 def. (Note: cannot be equipped by Kouros)

Teddy Jr. - Teddy Bear
Rufus - Stitched Pillow
Edgar - Edgar's Journal
Sobre - Happy Face Pillow
Fleance - Edgar (in animal mode)
Nelson - Pimp Cane
Cherokee - Small Canadian Flag

The Kitty Bag gives a +50 to all stats and allows you to hold twice as many items. You get it by beating all the high scores to all the mini-games.

I realized that since underwear and pants are equipment, you can unequip everything and you'd be naked... I guess what we'll do is have a pixelized censor bar appear in front of the crotch when there's nothing there.
...There might be a password to remove the censor bar...

Passwords
Humans ignore transformations and animals - NOTHINGTOSEEHERE
Big Head mode - WHYSYOURHEADSOFAT
Stick Figure mode - DINASLAZY
Full xxx bars for everyone - CAESARVIRUS
Invisibility - CHAMELEONACE

Infinite MP - HOWCOMEYOUNEVERDOTHATFORME
No clip mode (allows you to walk through walls) - LETUSOUT
Cheat Menu - IKNOWJOE

Character Passwords
The following characters are only available through using the password select. How would it work? You punch in the password and the closest generic human Poseidon Academy student turns into that character. You can then play as them by cycling through your list of playable characters. Easy.
Lasairon - DANARRATOR
Dina - SHIBS
Liebschaden - KILLPOCKET
EvolovE - FMBTS
Meph - NOTAWOMAN
Buddha the God - SMILEFORTHEBIRDIE
Mouse - HELLONURSE
Keki - TEDDYLOVESGRAPES
RZ - TIGHTCORSET
Pocket - PWN

Mini-Games
Chess - Available from the beginning. Just talk to Rose or Caesar and ask about Chess. It's normal Chess, Caesar is easier than Rose.

Feeding Time - Walk up to the classroom terrariums as Rose. You will be prompted with a screen asking if you want to feed your babies. The game is essentially insects falling and you have to move a little critter across the bottom of the screen and catch as many as you can in the time limit.

Little Black Book - Talk to Nelson as any student and ask about his conquests. The game is essentially guessing the last 3 digits of a random phone number in his little black book. If you guess wrong, he'll say 'higher' or 'lower'. You have a reasonable number of tries.

Fleance's Nightmare - Available only when Fleance goes to bed. You will be asked if you want to dream. The game is sort of like Spy Hunter. You get a top view of Fleance in panther form while he's running forwards (towards the top of the screen) trying to avoid bear traps. There are 3 lanes, you press and hold left or right to change lanes. You automatically snap back to the middle lane when you let go of left or right. Note: You have 3 lives before you lose the game, the extra lives are listed on the right as little Edgars.

Dr. Caesar - Talk to Caesar as Fleance when you don't have perfect health... Ok it's not so much a mini-game as it is a cutscene but I'm sure you'll find something to play with while you watch it.

Chase the Soap - It'll be like Snake. Talk to Rufus as Ice to start. You play as Rufus and you try to chase after a bar of soap. Everytime you catch it, the trail of bubbles you leave behind grows slightly longer. The soap also slips out of your hands and lands somewhere else on the floor. If you hit your trail of bubbles, you slip and it's game over. If you hit a wall, it's game over. Because the floor is slippery, you can't stop, you can only turn left and right.

Bad Koala - Play as Sobre and cause as much mayhem and chaos as you can within the allotted time limit. Bonus points are rewarded for combos and points are taken away for repeated offences, so basically you don't just sit in one place and keep doing the same thing repeatedly if you want a high score.
Simplified Score Chart:
Tagging walls - 5pts each
Streak across the football field during a game - 20pts
Smoke a doob before class - 10pts
Smoke a doob IN class - 30pts
Get in a fist fight - 20pts
Get in a fist fight with a teacher - 40pts

Multiplayer
This game should be 1-2 players so that you can work on some of the missions cooperatively.
"I wanna be Rufus!"
"You were Rufus last time. You can be Kouros."
"...I hate Kouros."
And obviously you can pick two random people to battle it out in the 2D fighter mode. The thing is, where you meet up to fight will be the level. If you encounter the other person outside, it'd be full of trees and grassy and if you were inside, there might be tables and chairs.
You could also just have the other person talk dirty to you until your xxx bars were full and then view their xxx cutscenes pretty quickly. If you wanted some Edgar x Rufus, you could totally do that. Ukey action for all!

Save Point
Edgar will not be available from the beginning (much to the dismay of many of his fans) but will actually be the save point in the game. After beating the game once, you will be given a password to unlock Edgar as a playable character but until then, he'll probably be staying in Fleance's room ready to heal you and save your progress. Depending on which character you use to save with, the confirmation message he gives will be different.

(Currently in the works because I'm honestly having a difficult time figuring out how he speaks to people. He's always so introspective I'm more familiar with how he talks to himself.)
To Fleance: "Prince, I've been waiting for you. Edgar will update his journal now, yes?"
To Noah: "N-Noah?? Y-You came t-t-to visit Edgar? Edgar needs to write this in his journal!"
To Caesar: "You again. I will try to be more accepting of you but I still want you to stay away from Fleance, human..."

I'm not sure how he talks to the rest of the characters so I'm not going to hazard a guess. I'm guessing a general one for everyone else except Rose (she just enters the room to find Edgar in his animal form and the journal on a desk. She can 'use' the journal to save.)
