I've got away from my mother's house and the temptation to glance over the right wing rag of a newspaper that she gets, but I'm still open to annoyance on the subject of the tsunami. Now I've had to listen to people on the radio saying things like, "I've come here on holiday, so I'm going to stay here and enjoy myself." I was a little bit annoyed at the people who were on the first flights out of the affected areas, but at least they left because they were traumatised. How can you be so unaffected by the whole thing that you can sit on your hotel balcony, drinking a bottle of beer and say that you're going to enjoy the rest of your holiday while only a few miles away others are desperately trying to find loved ones buried under wreckage or to clear away the dead who litter the streets or who knows what other horrific tasks have to be performed? That's just sick. I'd like to think that, had I been rich enough to go out there on a holiday, I would have had the decency to give as much help as I could, not sit around drinking beer while other people can't even get clean water.
