Ginji had no idea that Ban had been in this place for a while. He had gotten used to assuming that his partner just knew more about everything than him. It came naturally to Ginji to go along with whatever Ban said or did so when Ban had said he would come to find Ginji, Ginji had stayed put and waited faithfully. The fact that not as much time had passed for Ginji since the last time they were together didn't mean that he was any less happy to see his friend. He had really thought he was going to die when he arrived in that weird desert and everything that had happened since then had felt more and more strange ( ... )

The hug wasn't at all unexpected. It was how Ginji greeted people, especially his friends. And truth be told Ban didn't mind too much--it meant it was more likely this was his Ginji, the one from his world.

"Ginji, you can let go now," Ban said after a moment. He didn't push his friend off, though. He could remember what a shock his first day here had been. The nightmarish wasteland and the spaceship of all things...

He was glad that he had gotten here first. Ginji was strong when he needed to be, but he was too trusting and innocent most of the time. And when Ginji felt threatened... There was no telling what could have happened if Ban wasn't there.

Ginji gave Ban a slightly embarrassed grin and then pulled away from Ban very slowly. He didn't really give Ban any more space though, instead lingering close to him. He didn't apologize for holding on for too long. If Ban really had a problem with it he would have actually done something about it.

He wanted to keep touching, to prove that he was really still alive, so he settled with standing close. "You said something about how I have money for food?" he asked, frowning. "I don't remember getting any money..."

"They gave you an ID, right?" Ban said as he led Ginji to the elevator. "That's what the money is on. They don't have real cash." That could make for some real payment issues, but thankfully Ban hadn't had any anonymous clients so far. Really, there hadn't been much theft up here at all. If not for that megalomaniacal juicer he wouldn't have had anything to do.

"Oh, like a credit card!" Ginji followed after Ban faithfully and then grinned slightly at the thought. "I better be careful with it then." After all it wouldn't be the first time that Ginji had accidentally demagnetized something. Truthfully at the moment he didn't even think he would be able to muster up enough power to create static let alone anything like that.

"Yeah, you don't want to break it," Ban said. He pointed toward one of the security cameras aimed at the elevators and stair doors. "Everything here's really high-tech, isn't it? Reminds me of Infinity Fortress." Hopefully that was a good enough hint to keep Ginji quiet about his power for a little while.

Ban had no idea what Ginji's power would do to the electronics up here. But for now, he figured they were safe using the elevator. Ginji had said he was sleepy, and even though he was being his usual happy self, Ban knew his friend was probably still tired from whatever had brought him through the rift. So he led Ginji into the elevator once one opened and hit the button for floor one.

Ginji shook his head at the comparison. It didn't feel like Mungenjou to him at all. In the fortress of his childhood he felt surrounded by power almost begging to be tapped into. It made everything inside of him feel alive and, more importantly, dangerous. In this ship he felt completely cut off. He couldn't even feel power in the walls. He knew that things had to be running somehow but he couldn't figure it out. Even he knew that it was probably best he not try to find out. Feeling kind of worn out was better than ruining whatever it was that kept the space station in space.

He leaned against Ban a little when the elevator doors closed and yawned. Now that the excitement of being reunited with Ban was over he felt like he wanted to take a nap.

"Hey, wake up," Ban said, shaking Ginji a bit. "If you fall asleep you won't get to eat." The elevator quickly reached the next floor. Thankfully the cafeteria was right across from them now.

Then it occurred to him, "Did they tell you where your room is yet?" If necessary, he was sure whoever was in charge of the rooms would let them move in together. There were some really weird people in this place.

Ginji blinked and forced himself to stay awake. Food was always better than naps.

"My room?" he frowned at the thought. "Um, no. Aren't we sharing a room?" That just seemed automatic to him, having a room without Ban would just be way too lonely.

"They automatically assign you somewhere when you show up," Ban told him. "Don't worry about it, I'll see if they'll change it. Earmuffs won't mind if you hang out in my room for today." Really Ban had no idea whether Zach would mind or not, but he didn't care.

Ban got in the shortest line for the food. He figured it didn't really matter much what they had, so long as it didn't take forever. Ginji would probably end up falling asleep after he got his meal anyway.

It took Ginji a while but eventually he put the pieces together.

"Ban-chan? Just how long have you been here?"

"A month." Almost exactly, give or take. A very long, very strange month.

They were in a big enough crowd now to talk freely, and Ban couldn't see anyone he recognized as an authority around. "Ginji, what's the last thing you remember before you got here?" Ban asked. "I showed up right after we saved Makubex from being deleted."

Ginji's eyes were distracted by the food selection. To anyone else it might have seemed that he was only half-listening to Ban. He frowned at his partner, managing to tear his eyes away from the end of the line. "But, yeah, we were on our way to the next job right after that..." He trailed off and frowned. "You were really missing for a whole month and I didn't notice?" That was a little unsettling and it made no sense. He could have sworn he had been with Ban before he had appeared here.

"Of course I wasn't missing!" Ban argued. "Idiot. If I was still there, I was still there." Unless it was a different world... He could worry about that later. At least Ginji knew what he was talking about.

"There's something wrong with time in this place. We could have been taken at the same time, but for some reason you got here later." That made sense to him, though he wasn't really sure if that was what happened. He wasn't about to ask one of the scientists.

Ginji visibly relaxed at Ban's explanation. Considering that he was a little too used to having blank spots in his memory, the idea of losing a month was a little more than disturbing. He didn't want to even consider the damage he could have done in that much time. The fact that it was probably something more to do with this place than anything to do with him was good news. It was best not to think about it too hard, to just go along with what Ban said.

"I guess it doesn't matter, I mean we're both here now so that's what counts right?"

"Right," Ban said, smirking . "We're the GetBackers. Nothing's gonna get between us for long." Hell, even this weird timewarp thing hadn't kept them apart for long. And now they could really be GetBackers again. Ban had been lonely without Ginji there, though he wouldn't admit it. Working retrieval jobs just hadn't been the same either.

Ban wasn't too low on money yet--the five thousand credits he'd gotten from Fruit Fucker 2000 from finding some hair ties had lasted a lot longer than he'd expected. After all, he didn't have to worry about parking tickets and rent. Ban waited until after they got their meals and sat down to bring up the issue that had been worrying him from the start.

"Have you used your power since you got here?" he asked, voice low in case they were overheard.
