Australian Open Day 2 - thank you Federer for that stunning almost scare

Jan 19, 2010 00:45

Damn you Roger Federer. I hate you.

But then again, I don't. He just beat Igor Andreev in four sets, of which in the third, Igor had multiple chances to take the set and possibly lead the match in a different direction. But instead, and predictably so, Igor basically handed the match on a silver platter to Fed.

Damn. You. Roger. Federer.

This almost always happens. I am so prepared to hate on him and then I realise, ugh it's not his fault. It's not HIS fault that he's so freaking good. There's a reason only a few have beaten Federer --barring all the times he's been sick or unfit or emotional because of Mirka's pregnancy or whatever. It's because they are mentally stronger than Fed and actually believe they can beat him. It's the same thing with the Williams sisters. The reason they're so dominant is because their opponents are just too damn scared of beating them. Or, even if they think themselves capable, they're just not mentally strong to keep going.

I admire Federer's ability to be able to defend himself from any attack, slight or heavy, against an unseeming opponent. Igor totally could have beat Federer today. I do believe he had a chance. Actually, he had a couple. But he lost it, and I think partly because, he lost his nerve. I wasn't watching the match though, so I can't really be sure. In any case, Roger won, I'm a little annoyed, but I knew it was coming. I don't really like the guy, but I would never say that he isn't a great player. (NOT the Greatest of All Time though. I mean come on, Time hasn't even ended yet).

Anyway. I just had to rant. Apart from MAJORLY slacking off due to having the scoreboard open as well as Twitter whilst attempting to read nearly 40 pages of Contract law, I had to witness Igor's royal fail there. At least Benneteau won, keeping me alive in the suicide pool. I'll be happy to wake up in the morning and see I'm still alive if Benjamin Becker wins. The joys of a Slam starting at the same time as spring semester. Got to love it.

Good night and hopefully I'll actually get to watch matches tomorrow...while I do some Civ Pro. Hurrahs.
