Another year, another Diwali

This was the first Diwali I was celebrating back home in three years. We had a nice day and I think my favourite part of this festival is how low-key it is for us. Of course it's pretty loud in India what with the funtastic fireworks but it's still a low-key festival. In a good way. To me it's always been about getting new clothes (materialism), eating good food (gluttony), and spending time with family and friends (the good stuff). Of course the firecrackers were the best and I miss them oh so much. Seriously, you do not get cool fireworks here like you do in India. Those are bits I miss from my childhood, with the rockets and swirlies and sparklers. Sigh.

Anyway, I also love that Diwali gets us to connect with the rest of our family, especially those so far away from here. It's gotten easier over the past few years thanks to the advancement in technology. Got texts and e-mails from friends and family and they made me happy. Last year it was doubly nice for me because Diwali landed on my birthday, so I got the double dish of birthday greetings and Diwali greetings. Hehe.

But anyway. I just wanted to say Happy (belated now) Diwali.  Best part? I got to spend time with family and our guests but also finish up my draft of my second memo assignment. Hurrahs! That too after a particularly painful appointment at the Writer's Resource Center. I am seriously frightened to get my grade back for the first memo. I knew it sucked when I handed it in but it was confirmed by the WRC (she didn't say anything but just from the amount of horrible grammar, writing, and just general wrongness, I knew what my grade will likely be).

I've got another appointment next week. This time I'll be more prepared and hopefully I'll have a better paper to show them.

OK. Ending on a good note. Happy belated Diwali and now off to bed!
