It is what it is

This has been a terrible 'past' week. Its Sunday night (American time) as I type this. Last Monday night at about a quarter to six pm, a dear friend who lives literally a block away, collapsed in his garage after trying to intercede an altercation his 16yo stepson (who's mom is one of my best friends) was having with his 15 year old girlfriend. Everyone involved was hugely upset at the time. Alan 'went down' and started seizing and vomiting, and stopped breathing. Megan, his wife, did CPR (she is a 'top' nurse ) and someone called an ambulance. We raced over there and Alan was intubated and taken up to the local hospital.
He had a CT scan and was found to have a huge bleed on the right side of his brain. We live on an outer island and so air ambulance was called to take him to Honolulu. The company who runs that service was recently shut down after 2 fatal accidents, and is only now barely up and running. Their pilots had been doing runs all day, and FAA forbids going 'overtime' for pilots.
The ER called the Coast Guard for backup transportation, and they refused stating the 'case' was futile. Bloody Hell.
Alan did code again in the ER but was rescusitated with meds.
Next morning they did medivac him to Honolulu. He is currently right smack in the middle of the critical time for brain swelling following surgery, and brain spasms. It was found he had ruptured an aneurysm on the right, and has a 12mm one on the left. We are all devastated. Just hoping, hoping, hoping for a good outcome. He's young and fit so those 2 things are positive for him. He is getting 'chesty' due to being intubated, and is on antibiotics. His website is alansrecovery.blogspot.com for anyone who is interested. His wife Meg is really suffering.
