Becoming Jane, or What's Becoming My Daily Jane Austen Post

Mar 06, 2007 23:41

Hiya Janeite flisters and anyone else who might be interested!

Is anyone planning on checking out this new movie, Becoming Jane? It's historicized fiction (think Shakespeare in Love) and opens this Friday in the UK; August 3 in the US (more release dates here). Thus, it looks I won't be able to catch it in theatres which is a bit of a bummer ( Read more... )

Hello, I've never come across a Jane Austen post before, so i though I would comment. I don't know about this film, the cast looks pretty good, but if they make it as some sort of teen flick it will be crap. I suppose the bottom line is anything that gets anyone reading more Jane has got to be good.

I've never come across a Jane Austen post before

You mean here at my LJ? If so, that could be because some have been locked since the majority of my LJ is FO and you haven't friended my LJ. That said, though, hello! I see we have forzazzurri in common and I think we met over there some months ago, no? Feel free to friend me if you're so inclined. :)

I agree with you about this film though--I hope it's not teen dribble and, yes, more Jane reading is always good!

I'm not a big fan of chick flicks, even period ones, and the idea of a made up film about someone real tends to set off my 'argh RPF!' alarm. I feel embarrassed for those people because they were real people, and now some writer is messing about with their lives for entertainment. (I felt the same about Shakespeare in love, incidentally). So no, I don't think this one is for me.

I very much enjoyed her sporking review of P&P though! I'm glad I'm not the only one who wanted to cuddle poor Mr.Collins in that film and smack everyone else about the head for their lack of manners :)

Yes! The RPF alarm goes off for me too, as it did with Shakespeare in Love. I've been very wary of this film which is why I found the review interesting since it's fairly positive. We'll see whether or not I actually ever watch it though; if I do, knowing me it'll be in a year or so *after* I've defended the dissertation. :p

Her sporking review of horrible P&P was fantastic! Ugh. I still can't believe I sat through that travesty.

Um, yeah, do you see Switzerland on that release date sheet? See how poor I am? I can't even watch to decide if it's total crap or not. *sulks*

*grin* I really am good at feeling sorry for myself, aren't I?

How are the boys btw?

I did think of you as I added that link in. Don't you have theatres in Switzerland?? :p Seriously though, if I ever see it before you, I'll give you my two cents.

The boys are behaving for the most part; they tend to think they have to defend us from the air though these days. Weirdos. I'm glad you finally got a diagnosis for Biscuit; how's treatment going?

Oh we do, they just don't play anything like that. We do get the odd, and I do mean odd, Danish or French film though. Just no Jane. :(

Air is dangerous. Very Dangerous. Didn't you know that? No more trouble with the neighbours from hell then?

Treatment *bangs some more on wood* seems to be going FABBITY! She drank less than T yesterday and didn't even look at the water dish in the house. None of the "I would really like to drink more but don't dare 'cause I'll get in trouble" behaviour either. And she was dry yesterday, all day and night. I'm crossing everything I can that it'll stay like that.

That fantastic news! Hurray for dry Biscuit! :D

Re this Jane film, it looks like Nor is planning on going with the intent to heckle so we may hear more from her soon!

Ooooh, that sounds interesting. I hadn't even heard of that. Isn't there one about the Bronte sisters called Bronte coming out one day? I saw ads for it a million years ago, but who knows what happened....

Allegedly, yes. I saw something about that somewhere but nothing concrete recently. If I come across anything I'll let you know, though ITV is supposedly planning a new version of Wuthering Heights for later this year or early next year which might interest you as well.

It looks like the Bronte film is looking for financing still and the director originally tied with it is no longer involved. Clicky for more.

Oh great. They'll tell us the release dates for Germany, England, Norway, Sweden and even Finland -every country around Denmark, except of course Denmark. *Sulk*

Erh, I had a point in posting. I think I just wanted to say that it sounds like a really interesting film.

Yeah, Canute's sulking with you. I don't understand film releases. Does Denmark generally get left off?

No, we don't, I don't think I've ever seen a list with Scandinavian release dates that didn't include Denmark. Plus, a couple of times I think we've actually been ahead of the international release dates.
