Artist Note: I tried to find examples from every age of art by female artists, but it's not easy. In the search I found the quote I used from Georgia O'Keefe from her own search in the same vein. It's a common problem, to find examples and to learn from the women artists who have gone before us. They are there, but their work was often overshadowed by the men in their lives or it just never recieved the same patronage as male artists.

Think back to middle school or high school art class. You probably studied Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Monet, Chuck Close, and Warhol. You probably also did a unit on O'Keefe and Cassatt. Can you recall any other women artists? Maybe Kahlo, if you were lucky and had a teacher who remembered that the Rio Grande did not stop culture from being expressed. Any others? It's a toughie.
