This has turned out to be a somewhat topical entry, as Hilary Mantel has just won the Booker Prize for "Bring Up the Bodies". It's the second book of what will be a trilogy and is a novelisation of the life of Thomas Cromwell, one of Henry VIII's more well known courtiers.
