Jeremy has mentioned before that he was surprised by how close my extended family was. I guess growing up in it, I didn't really notice it as peculiar.

But then I thought about our trip to Louisiana, and how when Aunt Claire dropped us off in Kenner, she greeted Pa with a hug. Now, I'm familiar with Aunt Claire, and I'm familiar with Pa. But is truly impressive that they're familiar enough with each other to greet each other with a hug. Pa is Aunt Claire's husband's sister's husband's father. Or her sister-in-law's father-in-law. That's like me knowing Robin's dad well enough to hug him when I see him. (He would be my brother-in-law's father-in-law.) Or like Eleesha's future husband knowing Hugh well enough to hug him (Hugh would be his sister-in-laws' father-in-law).

But you know, I like that closeness! How does a big family like that accomplish such a thing? Was it my parents' doing? My grandparent's doing? Maybe it had to do with my mom's grandmother and my dad's grandmother being best friends. Maybe it's a regional / Cajun thing? Maybe a little bit of all of the above?

I dunno. But let's see... Al and Robin have been married for about a year and half now, and I've meet Robin's dad twice. Give us 20 or 30 years, throw some kids in the mix, maybe we'll get there. I kind of hope we do. :)
