So it's Tuesday night. You know what that means: Tuesday Tila Blogging (
inspiration)!
And today's Tila Tequila entry marks a Very Special Night: the night of Tila's big, ultimate decision. But I am morally obligated to warn you, if you read any furhter, of spoilers. Because that's what the show is... spoiled!
In case I didn't make it clear with that little droplet of remorse,
our girl Dani didn't win, in perhaps the most what-the-fuck-was-she-thinking? decision of all-time. No, Dani The Dimpled Firefighting Lesbian lost to Blahbby.
She got an Indigo Girls montage (
here, go to 3:50) and she didn't win? This is a very, very, very cruel world. Especially because that's one of my all-time favorite songs!
(However, I must note: "
"Least Complicated" on M-fucking-TV? This whole bisexual-television thing has had positive impacts I'd never even dreamed of! Except of course that whole Blahbby winning, of course.)
Looking at that, I really don't get what went wrong, or why the hell Tila chose Dani. I mean, granted, it's not my love life--I think it's pretty clear that I'd choose Dani in an instant--but Tila, too, seemed to exhibit all signs of Daninfautation. She was always saying, "I love you," and though Tila has said she's "loved" about, oh, every single one of her contestants ("It's just so *hard* when you're in love, with like, 20 people!") she actually seemed to mean it when it came to Dani. And in other matters, Blahhby can't use chopsticks. Dani definitely knows how to use hers.
But, the rub here (and not one by Dani!), for me, were Tila's little post-decision-squeefest comments with Bobby. Fine, have your difference of opinion. But to go all giggling "It's like I'm your little wifey!" and talk about "marriage" and how you got a "man" just seemed quite a cruel slap in the face to all the Danilove she'd been doling out so generously the last few episodes, particularly this one.
To me--probably especially critical because my girl had just been kicked to the floating, plexiglass curb--all of this "marriage" giggling was just reinforcing the idea that, having decided on Bobby, Tila was going to sure as hell reap all the straight benefits. Whoo-hoo! Public acceptance! Normalcy!
I don't know if Tila picked Bobby over Dani because it felt "right" or because, realistically, it felt "easier" or because she didn't want to "go steady" with a futchy lesbian like Dani, or because she didn't feel "ready"--or didn't think America "felt ready"--for a serious, committed relationship between two women, one of whom is definitely (well, pretty definitely) not typical "Girls Gone Wild" material.
Granted, all of what I've just said could be pure bullshit. Maybe Tila really felt that "deeper connection" (one of her favorite buzzwords throughout the show) with Bobby, not Dani. My view is definitely biased, I'll give her that. And choosing the guy and picking the "typical" decision shouldn't necessarily be a cop-out. In this case, however, I'm not going to be shy about admitting how crushing it was to see something so groundbreaking--even more so by Dani as one of the final two, curtailing the "strippers" appearance of the show (in The Hangover, Tila says, "Dani was definitely one of the first ones I thought I was gonna let go")--end up with something so... blah. So... Blahbby.
This isn't a manifesto against all straight relationships, and, you know what?, Tila's kiss with Bobby in the little "grotto" (what is this, Ariel the Bisexual Mermaid?) was sweet; they have chemistry, fine. And, love, as Tila says over and over again, should be based on the person, not the gender, and that, like her sexuality, goes both ways-- not to pick someone based on the gender that's more socially accepted, and not pick someone based on gender to be "subversive." Except that, here, I think our per(son)ceptions were different. Granted, it's Tila's deiciosin. But all I could think during that decision, and its aftermath--our poor sweet Dani all choked up about Tila (?!)--was Tila must be crazy!
I still don't see it. Well, on the bright side, as Ryan of The Hangover said, Dani is now "the most popular lesbian in America," destined to recieve tons and tons and tons of mail from all the shocked straight/bi/lesbian women who have swooned over her dimples for weeks (hi!). And Tila? Well, I hope that she and Blahbby are having themselves an excellent time. In my opinion, of course, Tila's shot of love has been shot.
Also: stay tuned for a "Life Lessons from Tila Tequila" entry. And, I know a bunch of us have been following this show, so, with no further adieu: thoughts?
Here's a great little thing from the mecca of sexualiTV, AfterEllen.com.
