They unpack in silence, she asks how he is feeling and he frowns, nodding, not knowing exactly what he was supposed to say.
“Your magazine is in the bag...” She says, smiling up at him. His face lit up, a small grin forming.
“Really? Thank you.” He smiled, coming across the cover of the magazine he read called, For His Eyes Only - a gay magazine specifically for younger guys, he had started reading it when he was unsure of what he felt. He read the stories on the front, his eyes came across one and he gulped. ‘He’s more than the guy next door’. He put it on the table, looking up at his mom and biting his lip, “Mom... Do you hate me for what happened?” She watches how nervous he looked, shaking her head; she pulled him into her arms, holding onto him tightly.
“I could never hate you, no matter what. You are my son and I love you, whether you’re with a boy or a girl, I’ll always love you and be by your side.”
Biting his lip, he nods slowly, holding onto her tightly, thinking back to the night his mom and dad had been the angriest at each other, flinching when he thought back to the fists, the violence. “Sorry you got hurt because of it as well...” he whispers.
“I didn’t want you to see that, I wish I could take those images away from you. I’d do anything to stop these nightmares you have.” Michael shakes his head.
“Never told you the truth...”
She frowns, looking her son in the eye, “The truth?” Michael looks down and pulls away; he washes up his and Ned’s glasses. “When you are ready to tell me the truth, I’m here.” She smiles and kisses his cheek. Michael nods slowly; his eyes drifting outside to the spot where he and Ned were kissing, a small smile crept on his face. His mom noticed, smiling at him, loving to see her son smile.
“It was nice of Ned to come by and help you out...” Michael snaps out of his world, looking at her and nodding.
“Yeah, it really was.”
“Really think we are going to fit in around here, Mikey.” He grins.
“Me too.” Michael really was glad that they had moved here...
