Chapter OneChapter Two | Chapter Three | Chapter Four | Chapter Five | Chapter Six

At three on the dot, the door bell rang, Michael said goodbye to his mom and answered the door, seeing Ned and Molly there, he grinned, looking at Ned, noting he had changed; Ned took in that Michael had changed as well. The teen said hello to Molly in a babying voice, she grabbed onto his shirt and Michael picked her out of Ned’s hands, bouncing her and playing with her hair as they walked to the park, she giggled when they got near and Michael took her to the swings, all the while, Ned watching them together.

“You’re so amazing with children... Do you have any brothers or sisters?” Michael shakes his head and blushes hard, he puts Molly in a swing, pushing her back and forth, grinning and poking his tongue out at her. She claps excitedly, giggling and Michael can’t help but think she looks adorable like this. He pushes her for what felt like an age, before he felt a body pressed up against him, a hand resting on his hip as he pushed her, he gasped, biting his lip, his body pushing back against Ned’s. He looked around noticing that they were the only ones in the park.

“’nd. ‘And.” Michael stops the swing, looking over at the sand pit, watching her point and clap. He bites his lip, pulling her out and carrying her over to the sand pit, sitting on the edge, kicking his shoes off before sitting in with her, making sand mounds, watching as she destroyed them, flicking sand at Michael. He flinched, jumping out of the sand pit, wiping himself down, trying as best he could to get rid of every remnant of sand on him.

Ned watched him with curiosity, mentally analysing him. Whatever had happened to him had caused him to have several forms of OCD, he had no doubt that the move and the mess the boxes were in around the house had put pressure on Michael - more so than if his stuff had been transported before and set out for him. He wondered briefly what his bedroom would looks like, he knew there would be a desk, everything on it neat and a stationary set, the pencils all new and sharpened - at roughly the same length, a ruler next to it, with highlighter and pens, fresh, still having the lids on them and a packet spare in a drawer. He could tell by what Michael was wearing earlier - the way he had taken his shirt off and folded the bottom of it to slide it into his pocket that he had to have a system and no creases in his clothes. He idly wondered if he did his own washing and kept it separate from his mom’s. There was so much that Ned could learn from Michael, he didn’t want to take anything from him though, he just wanted to make sure he felt comfortable here.

He moved closer to Molly, taking over from what Michael was doing, he felt him sit next to him. They played in the sand for a few more minutes before Ned looked at Michael and got her out of the sand.

“How about, lunch at mine?” Michael nods, smiling nervously.

“I’d like that.” He wipes Molly down, absent-mindedly without thinking about what he is doing. He makes sure she is cleaned off and watches as she reaches for him. Michael picks her up and carries her towards the gate. Ned follows behind, thinking that Michael is perfect with children. He was going to enquire to his mom whether or not he wanted to work with kids when he finished school.

They walked in silence; the only sound emanating from between them was the babbling of Molly and the yawns she was hiding. Michael rocked her, waiting for her to fall asleep in his arms.

Ned opened his front door and smiled, taking Molly out of his hands and upstairs to her room, “Make yourself comfortable.” Was heard at the top of the stairs, he sat on one of the sofas in the living room, his eyes scouring around the pictures, a smile creeping on his face when he saw the family portrait on the wall above the fireplace, taken when Molly was only young. Michael sighed, looking up at how happy he and Julie were. He didn’t want to get in between that.

He felt that it was too late to feel guilt...
