"Thank you," Ardeth told Dean. "I would appreciate it."

Dean noted the pace and tried not to shoot the Cardassian an incredulous look as they started across the desert, feet trying to find purchase in the shifting sands as they moved.

Eric keeps up with the Cardassian's pace, paying extra close attention to his body. The sensation was odd, yet to feel every pulse of his heart as it sped up, and to sense each push and pull of his muscles, was strangely invigorating. The sand beneath his feet made it even more difficult, as balance was something he had to put effort into instead of it being entirely natural.

The pace wasn't too much of a challenge for one accustomed to greater heat and who had been doing this or something like it every day of his life for as long as he had been in Central Command. However, he kept the even pace and his gaze to the horizon. He knew it wouldn't be long before the effect occurred, and sure enough, it didn't disappoint. The hotel, which had been behind them, suddenly appeared in the distance before them, wavy from the heat rising off the sand.

Ardeth was accustomed to running, fighting and more in the sand and kept the relatively slow pace easily. He waited for the hotel to appear in front of them as it had done the last time they ran, and it did so, though he'd been sort of hoping it wouldn't.

Dean was making an effort to breath through his nose and out his mouth, trying to hold back the burn that was steadily building in his chest and lungs. Everything was still a little tight and he hadn't bothered to take any painkillers in the last couple of days.

He didn't even flinch as the hotel came back into view again, just keep running, eyes on the ground and tracking his own feet through the sand.

It hurt him to do so, but he didn't slow down.
