11.1/12 - This disease that we've got has got no ready cure

Aug 15, 2011 22:36

Effects (optional): Sharp pain in the right eye
Warnings: Eye trauma
Note: This is both a dream and a regular post. Only the dream will be under a cut. Assume this takes place early in the day.

A much younger Muraki in a college uniform sits in a laboratory and eyes the centrifuge behind him, waiting for it to finish so he can place the test tubes near him into it. They need to go through it before any further work can be done and with the clock overhead ticking ever closer to the end of open lab hours, Muraki wants it to be finished sooner rather than later.

Impatient, he moves over to it, looks down at the timer, and an instant later, it flies open. The contents shatter against walls but there's no time to move before one of the tubs hits him on the right side of the face. His glasses shatter and shards from both the lens and the tub land in his eye and the surrounding tissue. Muraki hisses in pain, grabs his eye reflexively, and runs to get help.

++++++++++

Muraki rests in a hospital bed with the right side of his face bandaged. Nearby, a doctor talks about infection and how they'd tried everything to save his eye, but in the end it was for the best that it came out. As a medical student, surely he understood preserving life over body part.

All he does is nod numbly.

[Upon waking, he yawns and something rustles under his movements for a moment.]

I suppose the only good to come from that dream is a reminder that I need to continue my research here. If anyone would like to help me attempt to create tissue and replicate organs in a laboratory setting, I'll need both a lab assistant if possible and people willing to donate either blood, a cheek swab of cells, or both. You'll be compensated a bit, of course.

[OOC: This is the start to his new plot. A reminder of what it involves is here and new people are still welcome to get involved!]
