It's not an easy thing to meet your maker.

Notwithstanding all the fuss about that "other" sci-fi movie playing this week-end, Space is currently airing a movie that could legitimately lay claim to the title of "Best Sci-Fi Movie Evah!" - Blade Runner.

As I'm watching, it occurs to me how odd it is that an actress of whom I'm not terribly fond (Daryl Hannah) stars in two of my favorite all-time movies - this one, and the Kill Bill movies. It also occurs to me that this still stands, to me, as one of Harrison Ford's greatest performances. Deckard is deliberately grey - at one point, Rutger Hauer's character mocks him, asking him "Aren't you supposed to be the "good" man?" And it's a shame, I think, that Ford made a decision later on in life to take on characters that were unambiguous heros - I really hope that it's not too late for him to sink his teeth into a role that might be more layered, because I think he still has it in him to deliver at least one more knockout performance.
