give me a home!

Note: Though this account is not a month old, my other account, sea_breeze, is, and on that profile is a link to this account. I hope that's adequate. :)
  • What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why? A healer would be a most interesting job; working with herbs and potions and helping people. Inventing new 'recipes' to heal, of course...no boring following directions out of a book! By extension, I would love to be an Herbology Professor. I love school, and to be there and get paid for it would be perfect! I always imagined being that fun Lupin-esque Professor that would make class exhilarating. Though I always found Herbology (okay, all classes) insanely interesting, it is obvious not all the students loved it. I want to share the wonder of learning and Herbology with everyone!

  • If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why? Ah dear, I suppose I just answered that question! If not Herbolgy, Transfiguration seems wonderful. It may be partly because Professor McGonagall taught it, but the challenge of it intrigues me. Though I'm a pretty nice person, I take care of children all the time and know I can be strict, which would be a huge part of teaching transfiguration properly. Mostly I think teaching such a challenging subject successfully would be extremely gratifying.

  • This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not? No, I'm too much of a dreamer to be in the middle of such danger, needing to act quickly. I'm also easily scared. I remember taking a film class and watching Nosferatu, the first horror movie made, and screaming out loud in the middle of class. Everyone thought I was kidding because it was a silent film and everyone else found it either comical or boring. Anyways, I would probably run away screaming if I had to face a Hungarian Horntail, not to mention all the creepy things that happened in the maze. I would love to do research and help the participants, though. (I quite honestly jumped out of my seat in excitement when Neville discovered gillyweed.)

  • If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why? A unicorn; pure, noble and beautiful. They also strike me as intelligent, knowing secrets we could never imagine. I have been compared to unicorns by those I love because of my pure heart, and I aspire to be brave and intelligent. A unicorn embodies all that I am and wish to be.

  • What HP character do you identify with most and why? I suppose it's a bit obvious from my username, but Luna Lovegood. I remember when I first read about her and started laughing because I have been known to read things upside down. Dreamy, creative and witty; I've been categorized as all these things.

She treasures her friends deeply, as do I. I have images and keepsakes from my friends all around my room, and when I read about the paintings on Luna's ceiling I related. Though I'm pretty cowardly, I could definitley see myself fighting as Luna did in any of the battles because of my loyalty to the cause and to my friends.

Mostly I identify with Luna because she's more than a bit odd. I've always been an odd one, interested in the idiosyncrasies of the world and, often, sporting vegetable earrings. (I admit, before I learned of Luna's dirigible plums I was seen wearing carrots.) Though Hermione (and everyone else, really) doubted Luna's beliefs in the unusual, she stood by them. I have some pretty unusual beliefs too, and though I have the greatest respect for science and learning, I won't let them interfere with my own beliefs.

  • What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised? I thought about this question for an inordinate amount of time. Because the mirror shows you what you want most at that moment, it would constantly be changing. Hence, I believe, Dumbledore's desire for thick, woolen socks. Okay, perhaps that wasn't entirely why Dumbledore said that, but I do believe the image in the Mirror of Erised would change. Right now, for instance, I wish I was at University instead of here at home...I would see myself in a classroom, discussing philosophy with my friends.

My previous answer would be more of a longterm thing, I suppose: I would be surrounded by friends, a husband, and books. That's pretty much it...if I have those I love around me and the ability to learn, I'm happy.

  • If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it? Ohh, I always thought I would buy Cinderella's castle from Disney World (shh, don't tell me it's not for sale or that it would cost more than a million dollars!) and open it up as an orphanage. That way the children would have a most wonderful place to live and learn. I would move the castle, too, away to an area with lots of land to play and run around in. And, most importantly, there would be a massive library inside! In fact...oh my goodness, a million dollars for books?!?! I could buy every book I ever dreamed of reading, and have a copy to read and a copy to underline and put notes in!!! I think I have a new desire for the Mirror of Erised!

  • What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now? The very first time I was asked what I wanted to be, I replied, "a firetruck!" and proceeded to run about the room making alarm sounds. When told that wasn't a living thing, I moved on to a mouse. (They rejected that, too.) Nowadays I am studying literature and am not entirely sure what I'd like to do...professor, biologist, bakery/bookstore owner...they're all dreams I would love to come true.

Because I love to learn to be surrounded by intellect, books and others inspired to learn more would be heaven. To get paid for that?! I could definitley see myself spending the rest of my life in school, as odd as that sounds. I would probably want to be a Professor at University because as much as I love children I would want people to discuss and allow me to learn too. I've often had Professors tell me that I've shown them a new way to look at a novel, and I'd love to have that happen with my own students. So as of now, a Professor is my top choice.

  • If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it? Ohh, a spell for whatever food I'm most craving at the moment. The spell would be Ebulovoco! (Ebulos is latin for a feast, or food, and voco is latin for to call for. The exclamation mark is just for kicks!) As a side note, one of the laws of Transfiguration is that you cannot create food out of thin air. So I suppose along with this spell I'd have to have a kitchen constantly stocked with every kind of food, ready to summon at my command!

  • If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus? Darkness surrounding anything, really. I'm exceedingly afraid of the dark, it's a bit ridiculous. I'm 19 and sleep with a night-light! I have such an active imagination that darkness holds every fear I can think of. The dark would have to somehow be lit up, perhaps by a night-light dancing about and doing something silly. Ah, a ghost would appear and then turn into Casper the friendly ghost dancing!

  • What do you look for in a friend? Creativity and the ability to tolerate, if not understand, my oddities. Kindness and loyalty...I am not very brave, but I would do anything for a friend. I hope they would do the same for me. Perhaps most importantly someone that will make me think...most of my friends are different from me in seemingly every way, but we accept each other, expand the other's mind and have a lot of laughs.

  • What trait most annoys you about other people? Visible vanity. Everyone deserves to be proud of themselves, but those that walk around with the seeming knowledge that they are better than everyone bother me. I just want to tap them on the shoulder and tell them that they're human too!

  • What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?

Intelligence/thirst for knowledge: I don't really like to brag, but heck, that's what this section is, I suppose. I'm told all the time that I'm intelligent, and my test scores and grades support that. When I'm not in school I get antsy. I'm constantly reading and write essays for fun. I've been known to try and stay at the University library past closing time. I'm never satisfied with what I know, I always want to learn. Not just about literature, though that's my passion...science, math, it all intrigues me. I guess I never lost my curiosity that you see so often in children.

The capacity to dream: Most of my friends are rather cynical, for whatever reason. Though they think I'm rather silly (and I am), I'd never give up my constant dreams. When they've given up on the world or are feeling down, I'm there to open the world back up for them. I think life is a lot more fun when you have cupcakes and mermaids and Cinderella's castle floating about in your head!

Acceptance: I accept everyone, pretty much. It hurts me to see others excluded. It can get me into trouble, but I'm nice to everyone as my default. If you're a geek, a druggie, a cheerleader...if you're anyone at all, I will probably like you just because you're you. I never understood the cliques at school, I've always just liked everyone. Most of the time people like me just because I like them, but even when they don't, it's still okay.

Creativity: I get this a lot from other people. Sometimes it's probably a way of telling me I'm a bit weird, but a lot of times it's just because I think of things others wouldn't. Academically this has often helped me...things just seem to make sense in my odd mind...from genetics to poetry.

Loyalty: I've always been a long-term friend person. Though I love to make new friends, my closest friend has been with me since we were five. I'm friendly to everyone, but only get truly close to a few people. Those few I will always stand by. I'm a pretty big chicken, and it doesn't take much to scare me. But I will go into the dark and beyond for a friend.

  • What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?

Over-thinking: I do this all the time. I'll read a question and start to answer it, and then go onto a philosophical debate about what the question truly means. At which point I realize thirty minutes have passed and I've written two sentences. When writing essays if I know there is a word that will be perfect for what I'm trying to say I'll sit until I think of it -- I'm talking hours. The word always comes, and I won't give up until it will. I only accept perfection for myself, academically. I've been criticized for over-thinking and perfectionism a lot; it wastes time, drains my mind, perfection is impossible, etc.

Trusting everyone: I suppose this goes along with my acceptance. I don't seem to have that "creep-o-meter" everyone else has. I can be talking to a serial murderer just escaped from high-security prison and I'll keep talking and laughing at his jokes. (I guess the joke about making a cloak from human skin was a bit off, but eh, it looks like he doesn't get out much anyways, he's probably just got a weird sense of humor!)

Irrationality: I believe in the unbelievable. I like to dance with fairies and swim with mermaids. Though I love science no one will be able to convince me that, rationally, none of my fantasies can exist.

Overly verbose: Though this application isn't a good example (I was trying to keep it rather short, but that was a mistake!), I talk too much. People usually tell me it's a good thing, but it's certainly not always. I think I may scare people a bit, talking about odd things for extended periods of time. I'm also one of those horridly annoying people who talk for way too long in Literature class. I have so much to say, and can't seem to stop myself until I say it all. I believe I miss out on what a lot of other, quieter, people have to say because of my big mouth.

Grammar Snob: Though I accept everyone, spelling and grammar mistakes drive me insane. I understand the occasional typo and not understanding complex grammatical theories. But misspelling after misspelling and no punctuation?! Ahhhh! It makes me want to tear out my hair and throw a dictionary at the offender!

  • Define in your own words the following key traits:
    • Courage: Walking through fear to accomplish what must be done.
    • Loyalty: The courage to do whatever is required to help a friend, and staying by them to the end.
    • Intelligence: The ability to make connections others cannot always make and to understand the complexities of life.
    • Ambition: The desire to become the best in whatever field you desire.

  • Name: Anna
  • Age: 19
  • Where did you find out about us? An old friend's (charmed_ashley) profile.
  • Do you plan on being active in the communities once you are sorted? That is the entire reason I've applied!

Edit: I elaborated a bit, especially on strengths and weaknesses, I hope my application's alright now! Thanks so much for being kind to my silly application!
