Today I saw a live vaginal birth. No pain medications, nothing for nausea, just pushing and grunting and the room filled with the most incredible energy... and out popped a squirming pink baby! It was truly amazing.
I really like OB, as it turns out. It just feels so... clean. There isn't the stench of disease, death, and/or madness. Well sometimes madness, but not Real madness, for the most part. And I did get blood on my pants, there's lots of blood, pouring out of the mother, but, the body is designed to, at least to a certain degree. Moms can lose blood that would normally be considered cause for concern.
I have a great clinical instructor and had a really good nurse that I was shadowing today - our temperaments fit, which is so so helpful. I wasn't able to eat yesterday and didn't really sleep last night (seriously, one of my worst nights ever), so today definitely went as well as it could have, all things considered. Still feel like hell, in a bit I'll take something to sleep, since tomorrow I get to do it all over again...
