We had a lovely evening with Em and her boyfriend last night. She decided what the entree would be - chicken tikka - and she cut up the chicken, made the marinade, and put the two together earlier in the day. Rice and parantha were accompaniments; I decided to oven-roast cauliflower for Ray and me, and Cameron if he was interested.
It was decided also to try to get Tasha acquainted with Cameron. I wouldn't say things went swimmingly in that regard, but it worked out much better than it ever has with anyone else. We started off with the dog muzzled and Cameron sitting on the sofa; by the end of the evening, she was either on the other side of babygates set up between the kitchen and the two adjoining rooms, or in the same room as us but leashed and either Ray or me holding the leash. In fact, toward the very end, she curled up in one of the living room chairs to sleep.
"See, that's how much I care about this guy!"
Em did pretty well with the meal. Other than the cauliflower, she cooked everything. I was determined not to micromanage the situation, but I did go as far as to try to teach her the art of anticipating the outcome of food prep. I did so by asking questions geared at making her think through the processes involved: "So, how's the rice coming along?" "What else are you serving tonight?" etc. I realized that on a fairly cold night the greenhouse is a handy place to keep meat before grilling, as it's partway to the grill but still outside the house proper, and therefore safe from dogs.
We ate dinner watching the movie Scoop, with Scarlet Johannson. It was a cute choice for young-couple and older-couple viewing.
The funniest moment not onscreen was when we noticed Zoey, carefully balanced on parts of each of the babygates (they formed a V-shape with the beam at the corner where the three rooms adjoin). She looked for all the world as if she were posing, thinking, oh this is nice, a new place for me to stand so everybody can admire my be-yoo-tiful presence!

Today has been somewhat successful. The temp outside got to the point where I felt okay gluing Ray's outside rearview mirror back on, and the bungie cord I chose to try worked perfectly to hold it in place until dried.
I've fed the bread starter two cups of flour, one of water, stirred it up well and left it to "work" on the kitchen counter.
Ray tackled my printer, got nowhere, but I finally got to the point where I can actually see the problem: a puncture in the card which is built into the back of the cartridge holder. Crap. At least there's something visible. He's gonna try to buy a replacement harness and dual cartridge holder. *Crossing fingers*
