Carts blank

I've been wondering lately about the higher incidence of grocery carts left in the store.  Frequently three-quarters full, they are abandoned as if their owners have suddenly had a change of heart.  Regretably, they are all-too-often not identified as such until the cheese is warm, the once-frozen pastry thawed, the eggs probably unsaleable.  I muse about what may have happened to the people who left them.  An attack of digestive upset?  The realization that they forgot their wallet on their dresser at home, and they can't afford to pay for their purchases?
But then I have fun with the idea.  They've been raptured, I decide, called to heaven in the midst of their mundane task, and we are all left behind.  Or Martians have abducted them, to populate a new colony on another planet.  What do you think?
