So, some successes, some failures.
First, a failure:
We still haven't gotten Zoey over the hump of the asthma issue. Emily and I have each concluded that stress, not physical/chemical allergens, is the cause. This we have decided after noting the sequence of events when she has an attack. I need to do more research, as well as talk to her doctors.
Now some successes:
I met the owner of the house in our neighborhood with the fabulous dragon on its roof today. Said dragon was a gift from his mom to him, has come with him and his family from location to location for six years now, and was only just painted this year. His daughters selected the colors. He has no idea where it came from (his mom got it through the internet), and he worried when he put it up that his neighbors would be mad at him. Huh. I assured him we didn't feel that way!
I'm trying ribs on our new grill tonight. Previously, when I tried to use it to indirectly cook meat, the temp got too high. However, it's just perfect for ribs, at least so far. I've scavenged a bunch of leftover sauces from the fridge, and put them together to use: mustardy South Carolina sauce with Memphis tomato-based, plus some blueberry sauce I used on pork chops recently. The ribs in question are a St. Louis style rack from a farm in Rodman NY, up near Watertown. Every time I've cooked ribs from fairly-local pigs, they've been delish, so I'm looking forward to these [later, I gotta say they were awesome, flavorful but lean, the way I like them].
I'm the spacial one, Ray's the verbal one, we know that. He couldn't figure out yesterday how to fold the back seats of his car down, so as to stow things, like Emily's bike. Today, I looked at the diagram in the manual, walked out to the car, popped the trunk, looked inside and said, "Oh boy". I called Ray out. He came out, inquiring,"I'm gonna feel stupid, aren't I?" Well, maybe, I said. The mechanism was exactly as it appeared in the manual. I'm guessing the light, or lack thereof, made it hard to see yesterday.
I've gotten to the point in my new job where I know what I don't seem to be grasping. My boss comes back from vacation this week. I am synopsizing my notes so I can ask her questions to clear up what confusion remains. I won't ask my coworker, K, because she's a pain-in-the-ass-know-it-all type and her first response when she came in Saturday to check on me/shop was to say,"Go home, Eleanor!" Well, yeah, I was half an hour late getting out of there, but there were circumstances. I will get a grip on this work, yes I will! BTW, when I went into the pharmacy to pick up a couple of scrips yesterday, the young guy who helped me remarked that he's heard that I was working in pricing, and when I confirmed it, he gave me a fist bump. Oh my, that made me feel great, that someone young enough to be my son was happy for me, was celebrating my success. Going from cashing to demo work was not the pleasure I'd hoped it would be, way back when. This transition is better.
