Livejournal being down wasn't exactly a problem for me.  I've been busy.  Monday, I worked at the store.  On my break, checked out information regarding health insurance for myself.  If all goes well, I will sign on Wegmans program effective January, Emily will go on RIT's, and Ray will buy one for himself through the Chamber of Commerce.  A lot of machinations, but it will be worth it.

Monday I also bumped into Chef Fred at our store.  I told him about having posted a recipe for grilled chicken, using the local chicken Wegmans carries.  It took him a millisecond to understand what I was talking about, then he said yeah, he'd be interested in seeing what I wrote.  Besides having a really good photograph, I changed the recipe to include the information that it's necessary to cook these chickens to a higher temp than chicken usually needs, due to the density of the flesh.  I hope my efforts help sell these birds, which are so delicious and raised so much closer and more humanely than their factory-farmed counterparts.

I've started making jewelry again.  Long ago (at least fifteen years, in fact) I made jewelry and tried to sell it locally.  The internet was in its infancy then, and the only way to sell was in a brick-and-mortar store.  Well, times have changed.  I've dusted off my skills, reorganized my materials in my studio (one end of our living room), replenished those materials which got used for Udda Thingza in the interim, and started Doing Stuff.  Pictures will follow.

This past week the mail brought an envelope with something from my church friend Nancy, whose husband died June 28.  I find it extremely moving that this dear woman, who's going through one of the worst times of her life, took the time to send me a note wishing me a happy birthday.  So sweet.

Speaking of church friends, I called one of mine, a woman named Jenny who makes jewelry and sells it locally.  I was hoping to get some technical pointers to improve my craftsmanship.  Like me, she has learned a lot from online tutorials.  It's good to know someone who does what I hope to do.

I've particularly noticed two things lately about myself.  I'm happier, better stimulated mentally, than I have been in a while.  Time is less linear, more fluid.  I'm digging into our CD collection, listening to music I haven't listened to in eons.  Jane Siberry, Jaco Pastorius, and the like.  Secondly, I've made an effort, even when the weather was brutal, to get out and take a walk almost every day.  That helps my mood too, and even though it's not a full workout, it helps me physically.  On the days when I do ICS at the store, walking on those concrete floors just kills my knees, hips, and ankles.

Ray preached at our church today, and I think he was a hit.  One of our fellow Methodist said after the service that she doesn't know who's funnier, him in the pulpit or me at my register at Wegmans.  I totally got a kick out of that!
